My mom loooooves Gene Pitney. "Mecca" isn't exactly the most PC song in the world, but it's awfully fabulous.

I saw Gene Pitney in concert in about 1990. He was fabulous. I've always loved that song too.

Incidentally, in her autobiography, Marianne Faithfull says that sex with Gene Pitney was the best she ever had. Who'd a thunk it!
