05 February 2014

The theme for this week's Photo Friday is calendars. Suggested by sperose. Thank you.

I thought as we are now into February people will have their calendars up by now. So let's see 'em - wall, desktop, old favourite, whatever.
Google calendar - I haven't had a physical calendar in over ten years.

I see calendars as "art of the month" these days more than a tool for keeping track of the date.

But yeah, Google Calendar for planning and scheduling.

Some of us are still old-school.

I was sort of amazed recently when my sister said that she still had a paper address book (which had my wrong address in it).

I grew up in the pre-internet world (turn fifty this year) but can't imagine how I managed to cope before it. Mostly, I didn't. I lost track of a lot of friends because letter writing involved way more organizational skills than I've ever mastered.

I use a wall calendar. Google Calendar is useless when I'm sitting at the typewriter.

I find a wall calendar to be helpful if i need a visual reminder, that out of sight out of mind thing, but it's never been something I bought because I ideally want one with every feasible notation and holiday, so i thought i'd make one and give it to you people on Valentines for the bunny love. I do not have the time at all, so I'm just telling you people about it. Originally it was going to be for the lunar new year, but it came so early and i had so much shoveling to avoid doing. Like right now. Yes, i like my snow like i like my... wool? Coffee? Eh, i cannot land this "seemingly virgin" punchline anywhere.

I think i've been physically making calendars since the first time it was a commercial art assignment at 16, so if need be for whatever reason, i will make one, but I remember noticing the number pattern when i was little-- not that i've ever made a whole calendar for myself. And i've recently discovered the new mac calendar does have a lot of holidays, which makes a nigh comprehensive calendar project a wee bit easier. Which makes themed calendar projects a snap. Which will kick off renewed calendar industry-- coming from a person who has never bought a calendar as an adult. But they make excellent gifts and advertisements.

Is it officially too cold and dark to shovel snow? I say yes.

I love calendars partly as art and partly as quick visual ques.

I enjoy looking back over them at the end of the year when I transfer important dates from the old to new year.

And, I tend to hang on to old ones for the day when I need artwork.

Mensa page a day calendar. I ace the word and logic questions and am pitiful at the ones that require algebra.

Missing my Matisse wall calendar. I am going to order one for 2014 though it is February.

I've gone for Klimt this year. Tamara de Lempicka a few years ago was not a success - too creepy to look at every day, it turned out.

I like the visual cue of seeing the whole month laid out while I'm eating breakfast. But I mostly use Google Calendar, and am still searching for the cable that will sync between the two...
