HIMYM finale [SPOILERS] [More:] That was horrible. 9 seasons just to kill off the title character (off-screen, no less!) pretty much as soon as we'd met her.

At least TVTropes has already been updated to reflect it.
I hope I did that right so it doesn't show up on Recent Comments.

I haven't even watched the last two seasons, but I'm not surprised, really. I read some spoilers about it earlier. I often wish that our TV shows were plotted out more like BBC mini-series or even Japanese anime where there is a definite beginning, middle, and end. There are a number of shows (I'm looking at you, Fringe, although it was handled pretty well, really) where they just lumbered along without a goal.

I am totally spoiled by Netflix and not having any network television available easily due to the lack of an antenna at the house we've been living in for the past year. Yeah, I know stuff is available online, but NETFLIX and it'll show up there eventually, right?

I spoiled myself online, and now I'm not even sure I want to watch. Total bullshit.

I was annoyed. It made the mother feel more like a womb to carry Ted's children than the love of his life.

I know nothing about the show and never watched an episode, but from what I had gathered, I had always assumed the mother was already dead just from the title.

Funny. I don't watch a lot of TV but enough that I should have known that this show was "a thing" or that it's been on so long.

I also never watched the show. And I always thought, according to the commercials, that the focus of the show was the NPH character.

Huh. I just watched it. The mother dying was telegraphed a few episodes (?) ago, and as soon as Robin and Barney broke up you knew where that was headed... so I guess I just saw it as all the pieces falling into place? Finales are usually pretty mediocre, so I suppose my lowered expectations are informing my reaction.
