I wasn't allowed to wear trousers in court until 1995. And I was once thrown out of a Chancery Master's Chambers because, although I was wearing a long skirt that almost reached the floor, I didn't have tights on (it was a sweltering hot summer's day). I had to go and buy some tights, on a day that was so hot the tar on the road was melting, because, apparently, the sight of a nekkid ankle was just too, too much for the court to bear.
