The son. Yeah, him. [More:] He's actually doing pretty well. He's been at his pharmacy tech job almost 6 months now, and things seem stable. He's been working fewer hours, mostly because not as many people are sick as in the winter.

He's still living at home. At this point, I'm okay with that. He's saving money to replace his 1995 Escort that looks like an extra in a Mad Max movie, trying to buy his next car with a big down payment (or maybe straight up cash).

I think once his car situation is better, he'll feel more comfortable with moving out; he won't have worries about being stranded.

So... he's doing okay. Looking back a year or so, I have to say that I'm okay with the way things are working out, although he still has some growing up to do.
Oh, and I like this.

Good to hear.

sounds like he's on a good path. I'm probably older than him and still a mess, so... I think some people just take time to get it together.

Good on him for the growing up part, it's hard, and good on you for being so supportive!

I didn't really have a steady job/career (teaching, that is) until I was 35 (and I've had the same job now for going 11 years). So, yeah, there's always hope. Nothing like needing to feed yourself for motivation.

I think we all still have some growing up to do. Or maybe I just haven't hit that point yet.

Well, thanks for the support. I hope the current trajectory continues.

you know, it's not at all unusual for kids to be living at home for a fair amount of time these days. The economy is so completely different from what it was even 20, 30 years ago. It's kind of rare, among people I know, for an early-20s kid to be living on their own - and if they are, it's with large numbers of housemates. I think it's OK to adjust expectations for this difficult contemporary economy.
