Scary. And cool. If that's possible.

I remember standing on St Kitt's once, touring a vet school there & looking at about 6 waterspouts dancing away over the water while no one else seemed to care. I guess they were far enough away/common enough an occurance that they weren't really a threat.

Those look a lot closer to land though. Eeek!

Wow. 6, that must have been an awesome sight.

It seems they hardly make it to land. So it's not a big risk apparently.

This inspired me to look up a rather interesting book I once read, Erskine Childers' The Riddle of the Sands.

I read the description of that book on wikipedia. These islands are surrounded by what they call 'shallow tidal waters'. At low tide people will walk to them.

I'd never heard of that book; will have a look. Tx.
