I have suddenly developed career ambition. Scary. In case I end up in the news 20 years from now throwing chairs like Steve Ballmer, now you'll know where it all went wrong.
Used to have ambition. When I was young. It was eventually ground out of me, though. Good luck.

My main ambition as a youth was to make a living. Once I got there, I kind of ran out a steam.

You may have a point Thorzdad. My desire may not last in the face of organizational politics and may not be grounded in realistic goals in the first place. For example, Is there actually a position called "VP of Everything?" I want to be VP of EVERYTHING. Except Sales, they should leave me alone. Sales off to the side in the org chart.

VP of everything? It's called "President".

So, are you hiring?

octothorpe, I'm afraid not. I am currently moving from a technical role to a sort of project / product position. I think I'm taking a liking to it. It has to be the first time I've started thinking clearly as an organizational player rather just than in terms of what I'm actually working on. It's kinda exciting. If you do it well it can be very helpful to people who look to your coordination efforts to get an anchor on what to do next. There's too much bad management out there!! I can do better (he says, not long before before turning into a Dilbert character.)

Good! I really loved project management. All the intricacies involved in getting a disparate group of people / companies to understand project goals and actually deliver on time (and budget) is never dull.

I really miss the challenge.
