People say the most bizzarre things. →[More:] I overheard a guy saying he fires people from time to time. The woman he was talking to asked him, "Do they ever try to get their jobs back?" and he said "No", and she said "So they don't even care..."

So apparently, if you don't make an effort to get your job back, that means you don't care that you were fired? Is that how people think?(!)

There are a lot of, well, stupid people and they tend also to be dim about hearing how stupid they sound. Also, this is a pretty typical way of defending against something scary --allying with the person who has the power.

Most people, however, do not actually think like this.

Of course people he fires don't try to get their jobs back, because who wants to work for that asshole.

You overheard two dumb people. You got to walk away; they have to live like that.

He is upset because the lesser folk don't come back, hat in hand, to suck up to him. She is sucking up or afraid of him. They are both lesser folk than you.

Her conclusion may seem bizarre, but it reminds me of those medical studies that seriously conclude that their treatment was successful because the patient didn't return for more treatment--proof that they were cured!
