Best Ever Veggie Burgers. [More:]I made these today and, OMG, they are wonderful. Extremely labour-intensive (I'm used to quick one-pot cooking), but very much worth it. I'll probably get at least 8, probably 10, nice big burgers out of the mixture.

I followed the directions completely, including using a cast-iron skillet to get the sear. They needed longer to cook than the recipe says, though. I gave them about 4 minutes each side to get the sear, then another 5 minutes on a lower heat, with a lid on and cheese melting on the burger.

And next time I'm in Columbus I'm definitely going to try the original at the North Star Cafe.
They look delicious-- don't be surprised, though, if they come out the same color they went in (beets will do that). I only mention cause I thought I might need a hospital after eating some beet-heavy meals this summer in New Mexico. Thank goodness for google (saved me some embarrassment).

II absolutely want to make these, and try eating them with a non-dairy cheese like soy cheese and no bun.

That indeed looks delicious. Probably too complicated for me to cook, alas, so I'll stick with buying Blue Mango veggie patties. But those do look yum!!

It does look like a pain to make, but at least if you get 8-10 patties you can freeze a bunch for future meals. I bet I'd like them.

The beets are the deal breaker, for me, in the recipe, sadly.

I'm with danf. I don't do beets or mushrooms. This rules out most veggie burgers for me. Now I'm craving a trip to Five Guys!

Why avoid beets? I'm a beetnik.

I'm a big beet fan, having discovered them late, but I have neither the time nor the interest for overly involved recipes at the moment. I'm disinterested in food enough to get really healthy again.

Does MetaChat still do "OMG BUNNY"? || The theme for this week's Photo Friday is Doors, Entrances and Exit.
