When we bought our place the junk in the basement was around 3 feet deep and full of huge albino spiders.

What happens in something like this? Did somebody die and nobody cared?

I'm guessing it's been rented out to tenants who don't give a shit and the landlord's decided to cut his losses, or is having to sell because of non-payment of rent leading to him being unable to pay the mortgage on it.

I see cleaning products, yet no evidence of cleaning. The bed is laid out as once having two people in it. But now debris covers one side of the bed. My guess is the death of a spouse or loved one and subsequent serious depression.
