Are there places that never have gloomy (very overcast) days? Like, in California or Arizona, for example, are there people who have never had the experience of looking out the window in the morning and thinking "What a gloomy day" or, if it doesn't strike them that way, at least hearing someone else call it gloomy, dreary, etc.? Especially without it being actually raining at the time? Or are overcast days just such an infrequent occurrence that it's actually a nice change when it happens? (which I can understand if it's been too hot out, of course.)

1. The Chef cooked an amazing dinner for my mum's birthday. Lamb so tender we didn't have to carve it - just used a fork to serve and so many different salads and vegetables. I'm incredibly lucky to have such a great guy, and am still in the schmoopy stage of the relationship.
Shingles sucks. I am beginning week 4 of this wretched affliction with an incredible sensitivity to light and the feeling of hot knitting needles penetrating my eye, piercing my brain and exiting the back of my skull. I do think I will have some rather distinguished looking pox scarring on one side of my nose. Well, back to my cave.

I found a house I really like and I'm trying to figure out if I can afford it. I spoke with a mortgage consultant who pre-approved me based on my credit score and ran numbers with me for different scenarios. He keeps pushing me to complete a loan application. Is that normal? Or is it premature unless I am really ready to buy this house (which I'm not; I am going back to look at it again with my parents on Saturday). I don't really want to be applying for a huge loan until I know that actually buying the house is a realistic possibility. Can I make an offer prior to applying for the loan, since I'm pre-approved? A Race that I won't be running
A five mile foot race up and down the steps of Pittsburgh's Northside including "[t]he largest stairway, Rising Main, has 330 steps – same as a 17-story building!"
Pittsburgh's steps are actually legal city streets often with houses on either side and street signs. They show on maps as regular streets which can really screw you up when you're driving around trying to follow a map or Google.

Minor gmail irritation. My gmail is set to show a snippet of the contents of the emails. It used to show a snippet of the last email in the conversation. Now, however, it's showing a snippet of the first email in the conversation, no matter how many later emails there are. I liked the other way better, but I can't seem to find a setting to fix this. I am minorly annoyed.
