Food photos and their "secret" set-ups - a Flickr discussion with pictures of food, and the actual setting.
Thanks filthy light thief that was interesting!

WOW. People are working a LOT harder at the food pictures on their blogs than I would ever have imagined. Daylight is really important. The styling is super contrived. A lot of times, what looks like an elegant setting is a crappy table that just happens to have a nice wood-grain top, and the awkward, ugly cushions are cropped out. White oak tag is a must-have.

And here I thought that the food bloggers' lives were just naturally so much more fabulous and better lit than my own.

This was really interesting! I sometimes use a piece of silver and/or white cardboard as a reflector. Other than that, that's it. These guys go to a lot of effort - certainly more than I could be bothered to. Although I have to confess that I'm slightly coveting their speed lights, soft-boxes and other bits and bobs.

I've been thinking of making a DIY light box of some sort. There are a lot of inexpensive ways to stage photos in a really clean setting.
