That was the first thing I thought when I saw your photo. But maybe he has a BBQ fetish.

When I was about 13 and my brother was 9, we had a cookout on the patio while my grandparents were over, because my dad and granddad were both BIG fans of grilled burgers, and this was something we did often. We lived in a split-level house, and my bedroom window was right over the patio. It being Georgia, and summer, we had window fans in some of the windows, including my bedroom.

The upstairs fans blew outward, to vent the upstairs heat out. My brother and I got the brilliant idea that if we turned that fan around, ALL the upstairs bedrooms could smell like delicious hamburger grill smoke! So we did it.

It was a couple of hours before my mom figured out what we'd done. Why she didn't kill us on the spot I don't know. Nothing like an open, humid house to soak up some char-grilled meat smell!

To this day I'm always very aware of where smoke is going, and if it'll soak into the surroundings only to show up on damp days, years in the future.

Before I read the 'more inside' part of this post, I had exactly the same thought when I saw your picture.

The smell of meat cooking on a nice smoky grill is great for a while, especially if I'm hungry, but I want to be able to get away from it later. So I do not want the smell on my clothes or in my house.

I'm not sure this says anything about whether or not you're crazy, but at least you're not alone!

Yikes, reminds me of a rib place I drive by fairly frequently. They have one of those huge smokers in their parking lot and the wind in the area mostly blows in one direction (from the bay) so they've managed to coat the adjacent beauty salon in soot. The google street view doesn't do it justice: that vinyl sign above the salon in the picture is nearly illegible today. I can't imagine anyone getting their hair done in there without coming home reeking of meaty odors.

When I studied abroad in undergrad, I lived with a couple who would hang our washing out to dry in the little courtyard area off their upper-level flat. All the kitchens vented into the same area, and for an entire semester my clothes smelled of a combo of strong fabric softener and fried fish. Nasty.
