Just finished reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, and I think Metafilter's own Adam Savage would be a clinch to play Walter. That is all.
Just started it. So far I'm enjoying it, but am having trouble empathizing with any of the characters; they all seem self-involved and uncaring. I see what you're saying about Walter. I want to slap Patty repeatedly.

My status is 573rd of 1721 holds at the NYPL.

I'll get back to you in a few months about it :)

Have it, haven't read it yet. But I will! (I HAVE read my copy of Frannie and Zooey, which we will start discussing here on October 18, i.e. Monday.)

I kind of lost interest about 50 pages in, for exactly the reasons Tochter talks about: I just didn't care about the characters, their lives, or what they thought or did.
