Wednesday 3 point updates 1. The Chef cooked an amazing dinner for my mum's birthday. Lamb so tender we didn't have to carve it - just used a fork to serve and so many different salads and vegetables. I'm incredibly lucky to have such a great guy, and am still in the schmoopy stage of the relationship.
[More:]
2. Work has been a little exciting in the last few weeks. Most of my projects have really long deadlines, so it's been really awesome seeing stuff that I've commissioned and worked on actually paying off. I've gotten my first two manuscripts in! very cool.
3. I'm heading up to Sydney next week for a family holiday with my mum and sister. I've only been to Sydney twice. I'm excited - should be good. We're going to the Opera house to see a performance of Pirates of Penzance. AWESOME.
1. Taking advantage of my coworker being out today to use his very fast computer and defrag the hard drive of my very slow computer in a probably fruitless attempt to make it run faster or at least stop spinning its hard drive wheels so much.

2. Keep coming in late to work because I keep forgetting that it's colder now and I'm likely to have to spend extra time scraping frost off the car windows.

3. Have decided I really don't like this time of year -- I'm invariably lonesome and romantically unhappy, and baseball isn't any fun because all the games MEAN something, plus which I have those stupid Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays looming, and I have to figure out what to do about them; the choice is basically spend them alone or travel hundreds of miles, because for sure nobody is gonna come see me.

1. My team finished our big year project a week earlier and without anyone quitting or crying, unlike previous years. I made brownies to celebrate, but that really doesn't feel like enough.

2. My brother and his wife are back from their honeymoon and they're even more fun as husband and wife than they were as girlfriend and boyfriend. Plus, they're giving me a coffeemaker.

3. I can't decide if I want to have a birthday party. I never feel like I have enough friends to warrant them. And I shouldn't feel this sad when I think about a birthday party, so that just makes me want to forget it all together.

Last night I:

1. Went to a trivia night in Hoboken with my mom and her sweetheart. I brought a friend, too, so it was less awkward.

2. Won a fleece in the bar raffle (free ticket with each drink). Does anyone drink Yuengling and want a fleece? I have like 3 of them already. =D

3. Kissed a girl under the stars on a pier in Hoboken. Just us, some boats, and the lights of NYC. So I guess I'm officially back in the game. w00t!

1. About ready to start dieting seriously
2. Fatigued & Underslept. The Caffeine, it does nothing!
3. Discovering that there's a black hole of expense out there that will happily absorb however much money you throw at it

1) Been running a little hard the last couple weeks. I think I'm starting to feel it a bit. It's been fun times, but...
2) Work is insane, and not in a particularly FUN way.
3) For the first time in ages, my back went into spasm this morning. I'm currently laid up, icing it, hoping that it's not as bad as it feels!

Bonus #4 - I'm very happy for js and the chef!

1. Got word that a huge proposal I worked on as a freelancer got accepted into the final round of considerations. They want me to work on the final pitch. Yay!

2. Except I really don't like theatre administration, as it does distract from my artistic work. Boo!

3. In other news, it has been 3 months since I went out for toilet paper and came back with shelter cat.

1. I've added light weightlifting to my physical therapy routine, and am already feeling the results quite decidedly.

2. As a result, I am STRONG I WILL CRUSH YOU! I AM ACTUALLY TOO GENTLE TO CRUSH YOU BUT IF YOU NEED HELP OPENING THAT JAR, LET ME KNOW. I'LL BE RIGHT OVER HERE.

3. The car is back in the shop, and we'll be deciding this week if we fix it (ouch) or buy a new one (ouch).

1. I just woke up from a 2-hour sofa nap (off sick today with an ulcerated cornea). Now I have furry nap mouth - bleaghh!

2. I'd been corresponding with a widower on OKCupid, we seemed to have a lot in common and were connecting well, but since I told him I am divorced - silence. Oh well, his loss. I don't chase 'em.

3. Today Ellie Kreiger made the most delicious Chinese chicken salad. The weather's turning cold here and it's not really salad weather, but I might make it this weekend, it looked so good, even with the mandarin oranges, of which I'm not a massive fan.

Yay Eid!

1. Sad, my kitten has been missing since Monday evening
2. Mad, I didn't even get a phone interview for the job I've been getting increasingly more qualified for
3. No 3.

:( sorry to hear that lysdexic. hope you find the kitten soon

Oh, I'm so sorry lyxdexic, both for the no job and even more so for the kitten.

1. Found out this morning that Sunday will be my only day off work between now and Nov 6. Oy.

2. Home repairs (roof/gutters/masonry work) finally almost done. Will be glad not to be co-ordinating all that anymore; seems like there have been workers climbing on the house for a month now.

3. It looks like the time has come to buy a wheelchair for my mom. Her arthritis and general poor health have reached the point where she can barely walk out her front door even when I'm there to help her. WhereTF do you even look for wheelchairs?

On preview: on no, lysdexic... here's hoping your kitten returns home safe and sound.

1. Yesterday I went to the (omg cute and sweet) ENT to try and deal with my increasing nosebleeds. Was expecting THE DREADED SCOPE, but instead got chemically cauterized. Which was sting-y and didn't hurt as much as I thought it might, but now I have... well, let's just say it's dry and the problem might be worse. Blecch. Scope it may be.

2. WHY DON'T PEOPLE WANT TO COME SEE OUR AMAZINGLY FAMOUS AND AWESOME GUEST ON OUR SHOW? Wouldn't you want to come meet the documentary filmmaker whose name rhymes with Carol Boris? We can't get an audience. I don't understand. (Though if anything good comes of it, it might be my colleague finally abandoning the audience concept altogether. God, I hate trying to get an audience for these damn shows.)

3. Why hasn't anybody from our possible wedding location called us back in three weeks, even after one visit and two e-mails? People, I want to give you my money. All I need is for you to tell me how much. Frankly, this is not much of a recommendation for your "unparalleled service and attention to detail."

1. Have gotten fully back into the sensible diet (meaning cutting out the cookies, candy) and exercise thing, and have lost 2 lb. Yes!

2. Always delightfully surprised to realize yet again that I love my husband as much or more as when I met him. And we're at 15 years together now.

3. Lately my fabulous rescue Aussie has decided that he likes to sleep on my lap shortly after dinner as my husband and I rejoice in Yankee losses or catch up on our Jeopardy! and Daily Show recordings on the DVR. This melts my heart. Every time.

Lysdexic, sending good thoughts for speedy return of your kitty. Senyar, get well quick. And richat, here's a suggestion -- you may want to try a hot bath. Heat can really help with back spasms (as can yoga style stretching.)

HELL YES I would.

1. Smooshie has taken to peeing on the bathroom rug. On one hand, it could be far worse (the Oriental rug in the dining room or the carpeting in the living room or the hardwood or the sofas or almost anywhere else). On the other hand, yuck, stop it.

2. A guy who I didn't know well but wasn't overly friendly to (he was a vendor who would aggressively push his product) committed suicide. Very sad. And here's a bonus weird part: his obit referenced his wife and his "loving and devoted companion" (two different people).

3. My back has been hurting for days. Ow.

I won an ipod touch last night.
I just picked a bunch of tomatoes.
I am off to get my hair cut.

(adding more hope for the kitty)

1. Dealing with my dog, or more specifically, my dog's thyroid levels. The total count was 0.6 when it is supposed to be in the range of between 1.0 and 4.0. I would start supplementation, but apparently need to do another test, which I have ordered and should have the results by now but have not heard. A bit bugged about it.

2. My jammed middle finger still hurts after 2 weeks. I had considered getting it looked at, but the thing with the dog is taking up the money and time right now. Hopefully it will continue to mend (it is definitely improved).

3. Big rain and wind on the way this weekend in the PNW. . .always a bit scary.

An extra 3-points from me.

4. I got a parcel from Specklet and TheDonF today! Some really cool and funny things, chosen with care and just perfect.

5. New series of The Office on TV tonight (we're behind the US, so it's season 5). I will record and watch each episode over and over and over. I love Dwight.

6. The eye drops are working and, as the doc predicted, they have an anaesthetic effect, which he warned me might lead me into a false sense of security that the corneal ulcer is healed before it really is. But the discomfort is much less than this morning.

1. On June 22, 2007, I got dumped by guy who couldn't deal with my issues while had just gotten into therapy.

2. Last Friday, I got dumped by a guy who couldn't deal with my issues while I'm still in therapy. (If this sounds greenly familiar, shhhh!)

3. The moral of the story is: While in therapy, don't date guys who can'1t roll with other peoples' issues.
3a. Wonder if I should just stay away from guys in general and explore my heteroflexibilty?

2. Sorry, Trisha.

3. Struggling with depression myself right now. But dealing with it ten times better than I have in the past.

Thanks, both of you.

Senyar: Also, I had a scratch on my cornea once and that's why I don't wear contact lenses anymore.

Wednesday was too full to get to this so I'll just tack on today:
1. Donated to NPR this morning and it made me late for class. Didn't get to hear my name or if they made their quota for matching funds. I lack closure but now Alec Baldwin can stop mocking me with pledge drive bon mots. I was glad I could afford to do it but I got hell for it. Too bad, I donated at Macy's too. Keep that Heifer's catalog away from me or someone is getting rabbits.

2. Don't talk on the phone and online chat at the same time. You're just distracted to both people and you feel like your half assing it on both ends. But it's so tempting. Sure, I can multitask, yeah--

3. I have to get use to schmooing and I feel like I'm trying too hard. It isn't flowing yet and yet when it flows, I end up sick of myself. Ugh. Today's been very cobbled together. I feel unsorted. But people got cupcakes and everything got done. Maybe that should count for something.

BoringPostcards, is your mother cool enough for one of these?

It's Friday here already, but I need to vent:
  1. Our work is being taken over by the feds early next year and I just found out that they have stolen my two managers and one of the only two people who can manage our database
  2. The other person who can manage our database just got another job, so we're up shit creek in that regard
  3. I had the chance to apply for jobs with the feds and decided I should stay to guide my team through the transition. I now realise that is misplaced loyalty and I should have applied. Hope I haven't missed the boat.
