Friday TV-talk watercooler thread. What shows are you watching right now? Are they great shows we should check out if we haven't already? Are they guilty pleasures? Are they disappointing you this season so far?
I really love Modern Family.

I'm watching Jersey Shore, which is feeling much more "staged" this season. But I get to chit-chat with my neighbor about "did you SEE this week's episode OH MAH GAWD can you BELIEVE it" which is fun.

We're watching Sons of Anarchy which is feeling very shark-jumpy this season. To me. The whole Irish plotline is hard to suspend disbelief on, I think.

I am loving this season of Mad Men though - I think it's the best season yet.

We're still on Season Two of The Big Bang Theory, though the show just started its fourth season on TV. It absolutely cracks me up- we watch an episode every night. The show has definitely become all about Sheldon by the second season, but so far that's working fine.

I am totally on a trashy reality TV kick. I get home from work after dealing with people's misery all day and veg out in front of utter rubbish.

- Britain's Next Top Model, which finishes with a live finale on Monday. I've already voted for Alisha. Hopefully the Australia's NTM fiasco will ensure that correct winner is announced - and it had better not be Joy with her nastiness and weird, backward-sloping teeth.

- Judge Judy - who is on when I'm eating dinner, usually. I love Judge Judy.

- Dating in the Dark - we've had the English series and now the US one has started. And yes, people are shallow - the person the man/woman really connected with in the dark is inevitably rejected when seen in the light.

- My guiltiest secret is something that's just started here - Tough Love - where a group of women with various relationship issues are are a 'love boot camp' to help them find true lurrrve. One woman, Taylor, has the most irritating voice ever, and is the skankiest golddigger I've ever seen. Total train-wreck TV but I love it.

- My crush on Bobby Flay has waned, and Tyler Florence has replaced him in my sexy chef fantasies. So Tyler's Ultimate is a must-watch too.

I've never seen Mad Men, but when I get myself a DVD, I know I'll have to get it. And unfortunately there are no re-runs of The Office (American version) showing at the moment, but I still have season 3 recorded and dip into it now and again.

We in the UK have been without Real Housewives (of anywhere) for far too long now. Address this please, trashy Sky channels. But there's a new series - The Only Way Is Essex - starting soon. It's filmed round here and will be a cross between Real Housewives and Jersey Shore, I guess, if they're focusing on the stereotypical 'Essex' types. My hairdresser said they'd asked to film in his salon, it being the flagship salon in the area. He refused, because he knows they will make people look ridiculous and he doesn't need the publicity or any of his clients being made to look foolish on national TV. But I will definitely be watching this!

These are the shows that I am watching right now:

Mad Men
How I met Your Mother
Glee
Modern Family
Project Runway

I actually just watched last night's PR. *tears*
Glee... meh. I watch every episode for the one or two minutes of I Can't Believe They Went There humor. Lea Michele annoys the shit out of me, though.
HIMYM is getting a bit past it, but those darn kids are just so appealing.
Mad Men is getting better every season.
I love Modern Family. It's the only show in years that has both me and my husband gasping for laughter. Last one was Arrested Development.

Yes, Modern Family rocks. I can't wait for the new series to begin here.

After watching all of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The IT Crowd, I followed the trail to Man to Man with Dean Learner. If you haven't seen any of these, I recommend them all.

I think almost all TV is a waste of potential (for both presenters and viewers), but these shows are rare exceptions. Richard Ayoade is pure gold.

We are awfully stuffed when it comes to watching our shows. Because J. works a different shift than I do, he comes home at 10:45 or so, which means we have a very limited amount of time in which to watch the things we've TiVoed that night. I think I'm going to have to give up on a few shows, though.

Amazing Race -- missed the first one; I HATE trying to wrangle the TiVo in football season!
Project Runway -- yes, last night was so good. I am mondo into Mondo. You know, I don't mind the 90 minute episodes, and they seem to be paced pretty well. But the ACTUAL timing sucks for us (see above).
Top Chef (just finished; didn't start with Just Desserts)

I love the ridiculous humor that they've inserted into Mad Men this year. Which is why I was so sad when *cough-cough cough-cough-cough* died; that character was awesome.

I feel like I really should have been watching Modern Family, especially since the creator is an alumnus whom we should probably get for one of our projects here at work.

I have to give up on Grey's Anatomy. I wasn't all that involved anyway, but now it's overlapping with the NBC shows and PR and goddammit how many TiVos do we NEED???

Honestly, I never hear about anyone else watching Flipping Out on Bravo. I never thought I would get into it as much as I would, but the past couple of seasons have really drawn me in as Jeff has tried to get more self-aware, with mixed results. It really is a show about people and personal relationships, and it's pretty fascinating.

Psych.

HIMYM... yeah, but the last episode, with Barney's brother and "father" -- wow, that was jump-the-shark territory.

BBT, yes, of course. It totally is the Sheldon Show, and I wait for it to jump the shark as well, but last night's episode (Sheldon as robot) just made me giggle so much.

Eastbound and Down started last week, yay!

I've only seen one episode of each so far this season, but enjoyed each one: Dexter, Bored to Death, and Outsourced.

Bored to Death (HBO) seems to be underrated. I didn't hear much about it last year, so I was surprised that they brought it back this year. I'm really glad they did. The end of the first episode was hilarious.

I think Outsourced is particularly funny since we have a lot of friends from India and there's always some cultural joking around going on. We watched the first episode last night and the BF was nearly in tears from laughing so hard.

My guilty pleasure is Say Yes to the Dress, but I don't like it as much now that it's in Atlanta instead of Kleinfeld in New York.

Oh, and also on HBO this season is Boardwalk Empire - about Atlantic City during prohibition. It's great.

I've just started watching a show called Bored & Tired on HBO with Jason Schwarzman, Zack Galifanakis & Ted Danson. once you watch a couple episodes and get into it, its really quite funny

I'm also interested in checking out David Cross' new show The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret on IFC

Another cool new show is the new BBC remake of Sherlock, set in modern day London. there has only been 3 episodes but they have all been really good

as for regular shows, i'm still checking out House, Dexter, Doctor Who, The Office (the guy who plays Watson in Sherlock is the same guy who played Tim in the British Office), 30 Rock, Community, Inspector Lewis, The Rick Mercer Report and a couple more i cant immediately think of

the one big thing i'm finding this year is that I'm watching most of my TV online, mostly because there really isnt one good night to flop on the couch for a couple of hours and be entertained for 3 hours, so i just watch when i have some time at the computer

So don't have time for TV these days, not even hulu. Too much going on!

If I choose to spend my recreational time with you guys instead, you won't hate me, right? As long as I'm not one of those HURR HURR TV people?

Y'all are convincing me to try Modern Family.

My girlfriend and I are still watching Project Runway. I've been enjoying thinking of over-the-top Kors metaphors. "It looks like she got drunk at a bar mitzvah and puked chiffon all over herself." "It looks like a transvestite vampire got in a fight with a can of beige paint and lost." And I'm not sure if I'm only noticing it now or if it's been on the rise the last couple seasons, but I think Nina Garcia usually shows up to the judging panels stoned off her gourd. Anyway, this season has been all right, especially the weird Michael C group vilification. Mondo got some big points for the way he handled it. Me, I think I would have started stabbing those people.

We watch Survivor too. There's a lot of ritualistic enjoyment with these long-running reality shows. Like, for some reason the snuffer shot in Survivor always amuses the hell out of me... and PR's judging music... and that high pitched whine effect they use in Top Chef which I call the kitten of destiny.

I don't think I would like Flipping Out, but every time the commercial for it goes by, where it shows a fluffy cat curled up in a decorative bowl, on screen for like 2 seconds, my girlfriend laughs like a kid, so that's something.

We're finally getting to the first season of Mad Men and liking it a lot so far. It's kind of a fascinating period, the sixties before they became the sixties.

Big Bang Theory is always a favorite, they do the geek thing very well. I had a crazy OCD experimental physicist roommate for a year and it wasn't really very fun but I love a show with math jokes.

Boardwalk Empire is fun, lots of sex and violence and Buscemi

Excited about Caprica coming back next week, hoping that it gets renewed.

Season 4 of The IT Crowd is airing in the UK, so I'm watching those as I find them. Also The Guild every week.

I got rid of cable this summer, so I'm not watching much TV. I'll keep following The Office and Community, but I may be off 30 Rock. I really miss Parks and Recreation. Hopefully Outsourced totally tanks so P&R can come back as a mid-season replacement.

I think that reality shows are audiovisual santorum.

I'm not big on most other TV, but I watch Mad Men when I'm traveling (I donated my TV when I moved into the condo and am not ready to get a new one yet)... I just learned that the new episodes are available on itunes a day or two after they first air, but I haven't found time to watch them that way yet.

Other things I've liked recently are The #1 Ladies' Detective Agency and Treme.

I've been watching the new Shatner show, *&$% My Dad Says". So far it's pretty good. Of course, I like Shatner when he rants. There is more of a story to it than I would have guessed though.

Boardwalk Empire is looking good. (It's fun that I live just down the road from the distillery that fed so much of the roaring 20's mayhem.)Haven't sat down to the new Dexter but I'm looking forward to it. Glee's Britney episode was the weakest thing they have ever done. They seem to have lost all energy this season.
