Help me brainstorm dinner: Roast leg of lamb edition. I have a leg of lamb marinating in the refrigerator, in a paste of garlic, rosemary, sage, thyme, and minced black olives (as per a recipe by Jody Adams of Rialto). I am supposed to then roast it, without wiping off the marinade, for an hour, and then smear it with dijon mustard and 2 cups of breadcrumbs and let it roast for another half hour. I cannot, however, use bread crumbs, as my partner cannot eat them. What should I use instead?

Fresh squeezed orange juice! So when I'm working, I take an orange or two every day. For some reason, while on break, I haven't been eating my oranges and had about a dozen that were past their prime.

So I peeled them and dropped them into the blender and added a little water, then strained the pulpy result through a colander.

Fresh squeezed orange juice! Yum.

Merry Christmas Bunnies!!! What did Santa bring you?
Merry Christmas Everyone :) Hey folks, how’re you all doing? Well I hope! I see the whole gang is here. That’s good… Stewie, Miko, gaspode, and all the rest of you guys and girls. I missed this place. I didn’t know how much until I actually wrote “Metachat” in the search bar after a year almost and came back here… I thought I could do without you guys for some reason, and I could (I was) but you know what—it’s not worth it if you don’t have people you connect with to share stuff that you care about—and that’s what I missed.

Anyway, I just wanted to wish you all, and hope that everyone’s getting what they wanted from Santa. :)

I'm making Thanksgiving dinner! I'm so excited, I have never made it before. My mom is doing the cranberry sauce, everything else is on me! I want to make the classics: turkey, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie... What else? Anyone have any fabulous recipes for American Thanksgiving dishes? I found what looks like a good recipe for mock mashed potatoes made of cauliflower.Read more...

I unexpectedly finished a book last night (there was a bunch of extra stuff at the end of the book, so it wasn't until I had read half a page of acknowledgements that I realized the novel had ended), and now I'm all out of sorts. I hate that. I want my book world back.

Can anyone recommend a U.S. power strip? I want one with a 6 ft or 10 ft lead, and where the outlets are spaced such that I can plug wall warts into all of them. Monoprice is usually my home for cheap cabling, but their power strips fail on the last count.

Acupuncture etiquette My acupuncturist has prescribed/recommended three different herbal supplements to me. She is now asking me if I've finished them yet. I can get the exact same supplements (same brand and all) online for a third of the price. I feel very awkward about saying, "I actually bought them online" next time she asks me. Is that ridiculous? Or do I have some obligation to purchase from her while she is treating me?

The Chessboard Killer Russia had never seen anything quite like the prolific serial killer Alexander Pichushkin, for whom “life without killing is like life without food.” How many lives did he take? Still Cranish After All These Years The year I first noticed the cranes, we'd moved from a mountain town to a mountain valley without a town -- a little watershed that, about a half-mile below the sawmill where we were living, dropped abruptly into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River in a lovely little waterfall.

Am I backwards? Now that summer is (nearly) over, I'm feeling more inclined to go back to the gym. I thought that people tended to 'hibernate' in the winter and be more active in the summer. You know, working off the winter weight, etc. But I think the summers in Chicago are too warm and humid for that. Am I alone in feeling this way?

The Salesman: experienced, emotional, marked by personal tragedy and political setback, Joe Biden is in many ways the antithesis of the president he serves. But his stock has risen steadily in the West Wing, and with the Democrats poised to lose much of their leverage in the midterm elections, the vice president’s unique skills and attributes may prove ever more crucial to his administration’s success.

There was no clear motive, no physical evidence connecting him to the crime, and the only witness against him recanted, declaring again and again before his death, in 2000, that Graves didn’t do it. If he didn’t, the truth will come out. Won’t it?
