I'm buying a down comforter online TODAY Hopefully on Amazon, so I can get it shipped 2-day for free on PRIME. What kind should I buy?[More:]I know the general rules about down comforter buying, but online everything is confusing. Specific suggestions would be appreciated (Queen size). Don't even ask what horror transpired that brought about this urgent need. Freakin' animals ruining my life.
Maybe this one?

What are your concerns? It will be the wrong one because it will. . .be too heavy/light? Not hold its shape? I still probably couldn't advise, but good luck.

Shape is big- don't want one where all the feathers shift to one side or another. Wouldn't want anything too light, either; I like to be weighed down.

I've found that the smaller the squares enclosing the down and the denser the fabric that the shell is made of, the fewer feather you lose, as well as less shifting. I think this is the one I have, which is lighter weight, because we live in the south, but it illustrates the point I am trying to make about smaller squares means less shifting.
Could I be any less coherent this morning? Cold medicine makes msali slooooow.

The squares! Awesome msali. I always have had shape shifters and gave up.

If I could do it all over again, I'd buy a king sized comforter for my queen sized bed. I'm tired of fighting my husband for the 3 inches that hang over the edge.

misskaz, we have moved to a two blanket system. *nods*

Your cat (has it survived Twinkie?) may well take a fancy to urinating on it. This is a very endearing facet of cat mentality.

We have a couple from Eddie Bauer. In the winter, we use two.

And I know better than to fight my wife for the edge. I would rather be cold than to suffer the consequences.

Yes, lots of squares. And many adorable duvet covers to switch out!

I love down, but down comforters were a pain. The dog wanted to chew on it to get to the feathers, they required more attention to launder and they were more expensive. So, despite my dislike of plastic and synthetics, beds at my house now have fiberfill comforters. They're very warm, less expensive, easy to wash and easy to dry, and the dog is not interested in eating them. It's not the same dog that ate the down comforters, so this is not Really Scientific.

Bonus - no more tiny feathers floating everywhere from a small tear in the duvet, because Previous Dog, who had only a tiny handful of brain cells, thought there must be a duck in there somewhere.

I know you said online, but Bed, Bath & Beyond always has 20% off coupons. Don't know if they work for online purchases.

I got one from BB&B and it wasn't so great. But then I got one from Macy's and it has been great. It's their house brand Charter Club.

I LOVE my Eddie Bauer comforter. LOVE IT! Based on the size and price, I think I have this one. Based on how much I love it and the specs for yours, I think your choice is spot on. It has a higher thread and fill count, is wider, and still has the baffle box design (keeps the feathers in place). Do it! Down comforters are the best!!!

Ooo, the Eddie Bauer does look pretty good.

Yesssssss, it's wonderful. No more half-dozing comforter wars, no more waking up with my bum bare in the cold night air.

That looks like a fabulous comforter, TPS.

I've got one from thecompanystore.com also. I love it. Make sure you get a comforter cover for it - I had the cover off for a while, and my cats ripped a hole, and then the dog rolled in the feathers. Only one square affected and I can fix it, but so mad at them!

I ended up going with the Eddie Bauer! Very excited. Down is expensive, but I know it's a good "investment".

Excellent choice, TPS, I am sure you will be very happy with it!

Yay!! I remember when I got mine for Christmas, I spent the rest of the day walking around wrapped up in it. So comfy.

Months later, I return to offer thanks to all who suggested Eddie Bauer. We got ours a week ago, and were concerned about the small box. "How can a queen-sized comforter fit in that?" We opened the box, tossed in the dryer on air-dry cycle for 10 minutes, and threw it in our new cover. We've been cozy every night since then.
