So, ehm, I've seen quite a few of these randomised mp3 threads.
I took part this time.
Can somebody explain what the idea is of these threads? What's the pay off?
People don't seem to react to each others random music titles a lot. So it's not to start a conversation.
Also it's randomised, not the music people like most. So it's not a very good way to find new good music...

Here's a bonus track for your listening pleasure:

BONUS TRACK: 11. Spaceship Broken, Parts Needed (City of Echoes) - Pelican**
SUPER SPECIAL SECRET BONUS TRACK: 12. She Is Beautiful (I Get Wet) - Andrew W.K.***

I totally cheated because otherwise half of this list would have been from Lambchop's "Nixon" because iTunes hates me.

*This is one of the only songs I have ever liked that contains a flute solo.
**Included because it was the next song on shuffle and the song title amuses me. And it's happy, upbeat instrumental prog that still rocks without being all artsy-fartsy.
***Included because, well, just because.

On preview:

I like these threads because I always end up seeing something I'd never heard of and finding new music. I also like airing my exquisite taste for all of MetaChat to see. And that it is random makes it fun, because if you're honest, sometimes total crap comes up and then everyone can tee-hee that you have a Loverboy song on your iPod.
posted by BitterOldPunk 15 October | 15:28
I always find new music via these things. If it was our favourite music then the whole thing would get repetitious real fast and you can always check out people's last FM listings in the wiki for that. And like BOP said it's sometimes good for a laugh.

Loverboy is fucking awesome.

BOP: Everyone's list should be all Lambchop, all the time!

Hip Hop - Royce Da 5'9
Outsider (Ramones cover) - Green Day
Gangsta Gumbo - Crooked I
Strawberry Bounce - Janet Jackson
Light Up freestyle - Crooked I
Deja Vu - Nas
We Can Make It Better - Kanye ft. Q-Tip & Common
Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode
California Love - Tupac

jouke, for me, these are sort of mindless fun. It is fun to delve into the collections of others, as well as my own library. I hate a lot of the shuffles that my device comes up with, but that is just part of the deal.

Plus, I figure if someone as totally cool as bearwife likes something, then it is worth a listen.

Hey BOP, I'm curious, which recording of Mozart's Requiem did you listen to, and is it the one you prefer? I've listened to quite a few but none measure up to that of Peter Schreier and the Leipzig Radio Orchestra with the Dresden State Chorus, from 1983. Its turgid Eastern Bloc gravitas suits the subject matter well, and I'm pretty sure it's the recording on the Amadeus soundtrack. I bet that's the real reason I like it so much.

Now for another listen:

1. Silmä Sata Ikävää - Kuupuu (Lumen Tädhen, 2009)
2. Remember When (Side A) - The Black Keys (Attack & Release, 2008)
3. Baba O'Riley - The Who (Who's Next, 1971)
4. Do You Like It [Explicit] - Domino (World of Dominology, 1997)
5. Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BuxWV 211 - Dieterich Buxtehude (Bine Katrine Bryndorf, or., 2003)
6. Biggest Fool In Town - Gorgeous George (1965)
7. Azoo De Ma Gnin Kpevi - Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou (197?)
8. Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) - Talking Heads (Remain in Light, 1980)
9. Back on the Chain Gang - The Pretenders (1982)
10. Hit the Road, Jack - Ray Charles (1960)

When I was 15 I stumbled on the baroque opera Pygmalion by the composer Rameau.
And I loved it instantly. Thankfully the recording is also a historic one: by La Petite Bande.
The ouverture can be found on youtube.
To listen to the vocal parts select "Fatal amour" on amazon.

It didn't exactly help me get laid. Au contraire.
So be aware of that risk.

Great Lists Everybody !!

my morning stuff is all done so I may as well post a second list too.............

A Place To Bury Strangers - Missing You
The Pharcyde - Devil Music
Mickey Monnlight - Interplanetary Music
Old 97s - Nineteen
The Kinks - Prince of Punks
Candy Dulfur - There Goes The Neighbourhood
Carl Perkins - Guitar Boogie
Dwight Yoakum - Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Corrine Bailey Rae - Call Me When You Get This
The Smiths - Back To The Old House

as for the new person who has questions about these lists, all I can say is that I personally love doing them . I have been turned on to so many new artists because of these posts . the key to them is the randomness of them . i have all kinds of awful songs in my music folder, but theyre there because they put a smile on my face or remind me of a place or time and maybe that will make someone else have a chuckle when they see it too. if we took the randomness out of these posts, the lists would become sad & generic . there are just too many cool avenues of music to go down. the more eclectic these lists are, the better

The Groovie Ghoulies - I Don't Like Mondays

The rare gem like this is what makes these lists fun. I had never heard of this band but now they are at the top of my playlist.
