Minor Identity Crisis? Since I dropped the "Wendell" alt-name last year it has felt odd to see my real name on the few pieces of writing I've gotten published or web-lished.[More:]
Today I got a galley of the upcoming book by Tim "Bad Banana" Seidell who I wrote about here, and the attached promotional material (not the book itself) mentions me as "Craig Wittier" (If you didn't know, it should be Wittler). Part of me cringed. But part of me was kinda pleased that the publisher of a book by a very witty writer should call me "Wittier", and I am actually considering using it as a semi-pen-name. Please slap me out of this delusional state. Thank you.
You'll always be wendell to me..

(you can put Billy Joel music behind that if you want)

I love the "wittier" moniker. It's a great double pun.

Run with it, Joan Crawford's name was Louise Le Suer, which got nixed cause it sounded like "Sewer". MGM held a contest to NAME AMERICAS'S NEXT TOP STARLET OMG and "Crawford" won.

Which she hated. Said it sounded like "Crayfish". But it works.

Friends called her "Crayfish" for DECADES.

Did she hit them with her wire hangers for doing that?

(Sorry, her adopted daughter's book has left me forever making that association.)

There's some Seinfeld episode where somebody confesses to George that he's "living a lie," and George says, "Oh, I got two or three of those going on." Go for it, Wendell, and enjoy!

Bearwife, Christina's report is a bit suspect and the movie takes a lot of liberties, but yeah the most damning quote I read was from a friend "Joan wanted to be everything, she tried so hard, I just wish she didn't try to be a mother." Not to mention just how strange and fucked up that whole family was, and the complete devastation of her marriage to the Pepsi. Co Exe, he basically left her with millions in debt and a really hostile board. But it's not there isn't a lot of outside evidence for her being a complete monster at times.

Eh, complicated. Sorry for the de-rail, I did a big Joan Crawford research bit a while back and now I'm THAT GUY. Uck I know.

not like there is a ton.

Yeah The Whelk, I read a more recent biography of Joan and it sounds like she wasn't the easiest person to get along with, but her adopted children were a bit off too. And her mother and brother were ungrateful sponges, I think, which probably stressed her out even more. Interesting stuff.

How'd we get this derail? Anyway, oneswellfoop, you're doing fine. Will this Wendell?

Wendell ended well almost a year ago, now. I haven't totally thrown out my checkered (or polka dotted) past, but I'm looking to the future now. So based on the consensus in this thread, I'm going to change my professional name to Craig Crayfish.

Anyway, I was somewhat sympathetic to Joan; wire hangers totally suck!

You'll always be wendell to me..

I was fully briefed on the change, but honestly I completely forgot you were Wendell.

I sure feel dumb.
