Help create a homebrew recipe book My friend & neighbour, Scott Russell, is looking for people to send him their favourite craft beers from all U.S. states and Canadian provinces for the second installment to his awesome book, "North American Clonebrews." See the last paragraph in the title link for more information!
Yay, Scott is great and I love the idea of a clonebrew guide. I'll have to think of some craft beers that are worth the hassle of getting/sending.

in one of Kurt Vonnegut's Novels, he gives out his family's beer recipe that won all kinds of awards when they lived in Europe . I can't remember which book it was from, but you could start reading any of his short story compilations, which are full of all kinds of amazing writing .

I remember that the secret ingredient in the beer was leftover coffee grounds

Dammit rollick, now I absolutely have to brew that. A quick google suggests it was mentioned in Timequake, and I've found an approximation of a possible recipe.

"Kurt's Mile-High Malt is a Dortmunder-style lager brewed by Wynkoop in honor of Kurt Vonnegut. Coffee was added to the mash as prescribed by Kurt's grandfather, Albert Lieber, brewer/owner of the original Indianapolis Brewery. His Dortmunder won a gold medal at the Paris International Exposition of 1889."

The coffee might be added late in the boil for a more subtle flavoring. Now I can't wait for winter to come so I can lager this.

* 6 lb. Bierkeller pale malt extract syrup
* 1 lb. carapils or dextrin malt
* 0.5 lb. crystal malt (20° Lovibond)
* 5.6 AAU Tettnang hops (1.25 oz. at 4.5% alpha-acid)
* 1.75 AAU Hallertau hops (0.5 oz. at 3.5% alpha-acid)
* 2 pt. starter of Munich or German lager yeast (Wyeast 2308, White Labs WLP-830 or equivalent)
* 3/4 cup corn sugar for priming

Thanks, rollick, but this is a clone brew recipe book for brews in production in North America.

I will pass this on to my friend though, because he is a Vonnegut and Dortmunder fan.

I hope others are reading my friend's site and making arrangements to send him beer. He'll put your name int he book even if he doesn't use the recipe!
