What is your favorite anecdote about yourself that you tell way too often? [More:]So everyone has a few personal anecdotes that they love to tell over and over. My personal policy with friends and family is to pretend I have never heard the anecdote and listen like it was the first time, every time. My favorite personal anecdote these days is "The Time I Didn't Get A Flu Shot And Got the Flu For A Whole Month." Tell me yours.
HOW ABOUT THAT ONE TIME I DIDN'T GO ON IRC EVEN THOUGH I POSTED TO MECHA? >=(

So... many... to... choose... from...

But I think I have been given the "I heard that before" look most often for:

"The origin of 'Wendell' (and why your mother should NEVER substitute teach at the same school you're attending)"

"Writing about the Sex Life of Schopenhauer (and missing something important)"

"Rolling down Imperial Highway, big nasty redhead at my side (on the saddest day of my life)"

I find that the 'brushes with fame' stories also get over-repeated: "Robin Williams mistakes me for a dead tennis player" and "Casey Kasem yells at me on Live TV"

In retrospect, the anecdotes are the only things of my life I WANT to talk about, because the "larger themes" of my life totally suck.

I am overly fond of telling people the story of my busted ankle.

For accuracy, I just asked Mrs. B. which of my stories she's most bored by. "That one where you were a kid running by the side of the pool, slipped, and hit the back of your head on the concrete."

I like stories.

The fact that I met Queen Latifah and got her autograph. I turn into such an idiot when she comes in my store. I know I've mentioned this to way too many people.

Oh, I have some dull slice-of-life stories that only I think are amusing. I'm always disappointed when they don't go over well, but I should stop trying.

Meanwhile, you met Queen Latifah?!? OMG! I adore her. (fellow Jersey girl too). That one's worth repeating.

Why I don't like ordering food on the phone (also known as the "are you under water" story).

a recounting of terrible apartments I had when I first came to NYC -- from the 6-floor-walk-up-with-4-people-and-no-living-room to the bedbug-(and-mouse-but-he-was-cute)-infested-apt-where-the-neighbors-stole-our-magazines-and-the-doors-fell-off-their-hinges place in Brooklyn.

Oh. The one where I set my hair on fire. Or that one where I accidentally set a menu on fire, and still couldn't get the server's attention.
