Happy New Year, y'all. Also, listen to this tonight or tomorrow.

Merry Christmas, Y'all
Ghost of Christmas past. Merry Christmas from the past. If you are over a certain age this may sound familiar. Seeburg store background Christmas music.

The Seeburg 1000 Background Music System was a phonograph designed to play background music from special 16 2/3 RPM vinyl records in offices, restaurants, retail businesses, factories and similar locations.

Style This Skirt? Hi y'all. Glad to see arsie is keeping the Musical Giftstravaganza alive! I thought of you all because I just bought this skirt. I love it to pieces but I'm not that great at styling - and I need a top to go with it. The manufacturer shows it with a tank top..not helpful for NY in December. I don't mind dressing with an edge but would like to stop somewhere short of "saucy wench." I know I'm going to wear it with black tights and either Mary Janes or tall boots - what shold I wear for a top? Thanks for your good eye.

Holiday Cards travel by sled dog? I follow a sled dog team on Twitter (Blair Braverman) and they are offering to take your holiday cards part of the way by sled dog, stamp them with a special stamp, and then drop them off at the post office.

I am so thrilled by this, but so far everyone I talk to is "what? ridiculous!" (sample size of two, so far)

Belatedly Sad Bunny - RIP Gman/Gabe I only dip into Metafilter occasionally the past few years & I just found out about gman/Gabe's passing.

I'm sad I missed the event but hadn't seen him in years. There are some cute (OLD) pics of us at meetups. He introduced me to his personal brand of world-traveling bombastic epic storytelling, along with the requisite (VERY excellent) hash he would procure on his far-flung travels.

Fuck. Godspeed, brother. MeFi has given me so many friends and acquaintances and all too many have passed on way ahead of the rest of us.

It's rants all the way down. but here is a mildly amusing peek at MeFi history.

Ok, so many things to rant about, but I'll just pick 2 that are related. Why do prepared Asian-ish meals have to have cooked red peppers and edamame? How about some cabbage or onions for crunch, color, and the ability to say there are vegetables in your garlic chicken? Broccoli, green beans, those are nice. But nooooooo, cooked red peppers, diced small so they're difficult to remove, and green soy beans.
