A truce? [More:]
Shortly after moving into my new house, my neighbor, Leo, had knee surgery. So... I decided to mow his front lawn. He liked it, but he didn't like it. He and his wife brought us something to pay it back: A bowl homemade potato salad (it was delicious).

The feud continued: I mowed again, they brought taco salad. Again; meatloaf.

Finally he called me over and announced that the following week, he would mow is lawn...and my lawn. He said his doctor wanted him to get more exercise and mowing the lawn would be therapeutic.

So the next weekend, I didn't mow my lawn. Neither did he. I wasn't going to give in, and steadfastly refused to mow the lawn. Finally toward the end of the next week, he mowed his lawn and my lawn.

But now the balance was off. Mrs. Doohickie came to the rescue: She made a cheesecake for Leo and Kathy. So now I think we're all even and perhaps peace will reign.
When I first moved into my last rental, I didn't have a mower yet, so the grass got a little long (the last resident didn't mow before they left, either). So I bought one online, but while I was waiting for it to arrive one of the neighbors came and mowed the yard. Sweet! A week or so later, he comes knocking on my door to introduce himself, and winds up the conversation by saying "So, I mowed your yard for you." Yeah thanks, that was nice. I didn't have a mower yet. "I charge $10 bucks for that, you know." ...

Reader, I went to my wallet, handed him $10, and he never talked to me again.

Yard expectations are the worst! Everyone has their own idea about when and how to care for a lawn, plants and such. And, also, what the heck is that they have sitting in the side yard? Did you see that????

mightshould: My neighbor behind me has a lot of junk in his back yard. I think he does appliance salvage and installations or something like that because there are probably 6 refrigerators there, a coupla dishwashers, that kind of thing. And he's always throwing out large appliance boxes. His backyard is overgrown, but his front and side are well maintained so who am I to complain? I don't easily see into his backyard anyway since I have a 6 foot privacy fence. You know the saying: Good fences make good neighbors.

I would gladly pay someone in potato salad for lawn mowing.
