... a few weeks ago a woman I work with was complaining of numbness in her hand that made it impossible for her to type. She and her doctor thought it was a trapped nerve. She saw an osteopath and it didn't help. She saw a neurologist, and had a MRI. She's now been diagnosed with an inoperable malignant brain tumour. She has twin boys, aged 13. Her husband is in pieces. She is one of the sweetest, kindest people I know. Fuck cancer.

And today a friend texted me to say that the cough she couldn't shake off is Stage 3 lung cancer. She has surgery later this week to remove part of her lung and some lymph nodes. Then she starts chemo. She has the most beautiful steel-grey hair that will all fall out. She is a feisty badass and because of her age (36) and fitness, she's been told she has a good chance of beating it. But she is still in shock. And her husband is shattered too. Fuck cancer.
