Not recently, but tomorrow night I'm going to see Steve Earle and the Dukes at the Barbican in London, his London show on the 30th Anniversary Copperhead Road Tour.
I've been a fan of Steve's for decades, and have seen him many times in concert. I much prefer his shows with The Dukes than his solo shows, so I'm really excited.
I forgot to say that we also got to see RadioHead on Thursday night at the local PPG Arena. I hate arena shows but this was a special case and definitely on my bucket list of concerts see. I would have loved to have seen them twenty years ago during the OK Computer tour but I was too poor and too busy at the time. Sadly Radiohead was far from a sellout and from my estimate, the arena was only about 2/3 full.
Steve Earle & the Dukes were superb. Old songs and new, politics (of course) a few laughs, a amazing version of Hendrix's Hey Joe that stopped the show, and an incredible atmosphere.
The Barbican is, in my opinion, one of the best concert halls in the world. Perfect acoustics, comfortable seats with plentry of legroom (for those who need it, not 4ft 11 me!) and every seat has a clear view of the stage. A well-chosen venue for an audience demographic that is well in the 50s.
