Halloween observation. Lollipops are the favorite candy of the 5 and under set.
We gave out the variety mini chocolate bars and lollipops. Most every sub 5 year old commented on the lollipops.

I guess chocolate craving develops after the basic sugar one.

Very interesting because I wouldn't have expected that!

Next year I'll mix lollipops in with the regular candy, and see what happens here!

It has also occurred to me that they might like lollipops because they are a thing to do for a while while a chocolate bar is just pop in your mouth and chew.

My 4.5 year old has always loved chocolate the most. My 6 year old has never really liked chocolate.

We were running out of candy really early. In desperation, we threw a few small bags of granola in the bowl. When kids came to the door, I gave them a choice between candy or a granola. Amazingly, they all chose the granola.

That IS surprising.

Maybe granola is appealing because it is something different than what everyone else is giving out?

I probably would've gone for granola for a change of pace, yeah.

Or... decoy treat - "Are you eating Halloween candy again?" "No mom, look it's just granola!" *snarfs down hidden chocolate*
