wherein my idiot harasser discovers my info look at this unrelenting f***ery[More:]

background threads: one, two

I get about two emails a day like this now, filtered straight to trash:

one
two

please don't quote any of the text from these missives in here just in case he searches and finds this thread etc it'd just validate him

I'm trying to figure out what to do. I kinda resent that I have to spend any brain cycles on this at all but ok. One option is just to 'go underground'; lock down my twitter, change my email, etc.

But I'm having a realization that instead of changing my plans of what to be doing online, there might be just a background level of annoyance you have to accept if you're going to be 'out there'. Like if I'm just going to increase my online presence, and maybe down the line writing articles in other publications, being recorded at conferences etc, if someone crazy or annoying (or even an actual personal antagonist) latches onto you, you just have to deal with it, manage and move on as long as they're not affecting your career or your family etc. in a significant way. Like, what do actual high profile public figures do? They must get a load of 'incoming' that's not necessarily sane; it just gets ignored and if it starts getting significant then they work with law enforcement

So to deal with this, filter to delete, ignore it however many months it goes on, and get on with things (and never respond). I was just talking to our friends in bunnies IRC and that's kinda the idea I got as the right approach to take. I think it's pretty much the only thing to do anyway?
Did you read this post recently?

wow! that poster has it pretty bad

I don't understand why some people are so persistent in anonymously following around other people? for so long? what on earf?

I mean, I 'follow' people, a lot of people--I used to read their blogs, now their twitter, etc--but I don't go around bothering them, I'm just happy to follow their commentary, expertise etc. cause they've decided to have a public voice. So it's not like I don't "get" why someone would remember another near stranger for so long but goddamn yo just talk to me like a grown man (or woman) if you have something to say

You can't reason with, or find a good reason, for mentally ill, obsessed people. Just filter out and then delete without reading.

Sorry about this. It does happen, and all you can do is withhold your attention.

:(

thanks bearwife. yeah I just got to trash and delete them twice a day without reading but I need to train myself to not look at trash at all, the way I didn't before I set up the filter. too bad gmail won't immediately permanently delete things via a filter and insists on keeping them in trash for 30 days

from what I glance at though he seems to be sending varied responses to my twitter updates which is ugh.

I appreciate the responses; to some degree it's helpful to just get a "yeah that's messed up"
