I mean, the difference is Heigl made a bunch of cash on that "sexist" film and I didn't, but still, she and I agree!

Heigl is not afraid to open her mouth, that's for sure; she was one of the only Grey's cast members to speak openly about that whole kerfuffle with T.R. Knight and whatshisface. Will be interesting if she can keep it up and not burn any bridges in the process.

yeah I like her too

A film called "Knocked Up" sexist? Who would have thought?

The comments in the US magazine article make me fear for humanity:
1:15 PM RWoman Says:

She is such a flaming liberal hooker

tr33hggr is right, those comments are pretty bad. Paraphrased: "Just cash your check and keep your trap shut, you stupid bitch!" And this seems to be coming from both men and women.

So much anger and misdirected hate. "How dare she complain! She gets PAID!"

I did learn something from one of the comments, though:

"jew tang clan forever (that's apatow's crew for anyone who doesn't know)"

I'm of two minds about this.

I mean, she DID act in the movie. She DID get paid for it, and the tone of her comments isn't, "Oh, I wish I hadn't done it" - it seems like she's very matter-of-fact about it: She acted in and profited from a movie that depicts women negatively. Maybe the context of the interview paints her in a better light.

But... but... I sputter... doesn't the entire genre of romantic comedies present sexist stereotypes in a humorous manner for the purpose of conflict?

Yea, that's the thing- a lot of romantic comedy stuff depends on the people involved being stupid, in all sorts of ways- some of it stereotypical. And I would be careful, if I were Katherine Heigl, to not bite the hands that feed me- Knocked Up and Grey's Anatomy are the two things that have taken her to where she is now. I mean, she was great in that Disney Channel "Freaky Friday" remake (Wish Upon A Star), but they all can't be THAT good!

Good point, muddgirl.

At least that's (slightly) better than advertisers using sexist stereotypes to sell me a new cordless drill.

Heigl called the movie "a little sexist." Maybe she turns down parts in movies that are "extremely sexist." "American Frat Party Road Vacation 5," that type of thing.

And while we're all on the subject... what kept shattering my willing suspension of disbelief while watching "Knocked Up" was the fact that Katherine Heigl's character always-- ALWAYS-- kept her bra on during sex. Every time I saw this I would get jarred from the narrative and think, 'Oh, Heigl must have some kind of 'No-Nudity' clause in her Grey's Anatomy contract."

Oh my. I missed that earlier thread and the New Yorker article linked from it.

Lots to think about. I haven't seen the movie, and I doubt I'd like it mmuch, but now I'm thinking it'd be interesting to check out anyway.

The funniest thing in the movie is the crush Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd's characters develop on each other. Other than that, the two funniest scenes were the 'deleted' Brokeback and Dr. Kuni scenes that made it to YouTube.
