The Kinks- "This Time Tomorrow" I've been sort of obsessed with this song ever since hearing it on this movie trailer I linked a couple of weeks ago. It's also sent me on little bit of a Kinks binge... more songs (hits and lesser-known tracks) inside!→[More:]
After I broke up with my first real boyfriend, he would leave poems on my car for me to find. It wasn't until a decade later that it finally hit me that his entire breakup poetry collection consisted of plagiarized Kinks songs. I remember receiving this one in particular.
You should've seen me when I first recognized that song was one of his old poems. Someone had given me a copy of a movie soundtrack and I was listening to it for the first time. I even remember that I was headed eastbound on the 134 freeway in Burbank. Suddenly Elvis Costello comes on, singing some cover tune. I find myself singing to it enthusiastically as I drove. Then suddenly I stopped and thought, "Wait. Why am I singing to this? Why do I know these words? They are REALLY REALLY familiar..." I almost got into an accident trying to pull off the freeway so I could rip apart the CD's liner notes. When I saw that the song was written by Ray Davies it all clicked. I knew he was a HUGE Kinks fan, so everything suddenly made perfect sense.

lynnster, I think that most guys have done that, at one time or other. I tried to use more obscure sources than the Kinks, but, yeah, guilty over here too.
