04 June 2007

I went for a run yesterday! That in itself is front-page post worthy, because damn, I'm out of shape. But that's not why I'm posting.[More:]
I was attacked by a bird! I was running along, minding my own business, and I heard a chirp from behind me. Didn't think anything of it. Then I heard another chirp, much much closer, and then there was a bird attacking the back of my head. I guess I strayed too close to a nest or something.

I laughed.

How are you?
It wasn't attacking you, it was just saying, "Hey." I however, got sh*tbombed by one Saturday - said bird somehow managed to plant one through the open window of my car (and not the open sunroof!) at such an angle that said bomb landed smack-dab in the middle of my carseat (thank goodness they're leather!) There was some collateral damage on my purse (which was nylon!) I meant to go buy a lottery ticket but never did get around to it that day.

It's rainy and gray here, but I'm feeling surprisingly upbeat for a Monday.

Can I have some of the upbeatness? I'm not feeling up or beat and it's grey here too. All I want to do is stay in bed or play videogames in my pjs. Instead, I have to go to the lab and be social. I don't feel like dealing with real live people today.

I'm sending some your way right now LF. Can you feel the ripples of positivity yet? ;)

mike, think of the bird as your personal Mickey Goldmill.

Why yes I can. I have dealt with people and not stabbed anyone in the eye...yet. It's only 10:40 am here though, teh day is still young.

It's raining cats, dogs, and small porcupines here in New York and I'm still hanging out of the porch.

Mike I bet that boidie was a mocking boid. They're pokey to invaders if they have babies in the nest.

You have a great porch, jonmc, judging by the pictures! I would so totally hang out there, too, even during thunderstorms. I love a good thunderstorm.

Mike, you reminded me about an incident a couple of months ago. I was at my aunt's farm, and intent on taking pictures of tiny purple flowers. I heard what really sounded like a missle (you know, that whistling sound) pass very close to my head. I looked quickly to the left to see a bird land in a nearby tree. I think it was a mockingbird, they're quite territorial.

On review, like chewatadistance said.

Blackbirds will do that, too, especially the red-winged sort. When I was a kid we lived in fear of cattails during nesting season, as did our big German Shepherd.

Magpies (don't know if you have those there) do this all the time in the nesting season.

Those of you whining about the rain should consider yourselves lucky - with the worst drought in recorded history now in something like its fifth year here, we are required to use less than 140 litres per person per day and, shortly, will face huge financial penalties for households that fail to do so. Tougher restrictions are just around the corner too and some communities are already relying on water brought in daily by truck. Pissing down rain would be like a dream come true for us.
