Update [More:]

My roommate and I are the proud owners of a BRAND SHINY NEW Swing-Away can opener. Thanks, paulsc - you were right, and it seems our old one was a pale cheap imitation. No more finger -mauling can openers for this household!

also: I had Thin Mints for breakfast. You?

Here's a recipe, for those of you in non-Girl-Scout-infested regions of the globe.
oh snap! and I just received the following most excellently titled spam... someone by the name of "loon" sent me a missive entitled "incinerated cyprus mulch"

this makes me happy.

Hooray for proper kitchen hardware!

A HUGE fucking HOORAY for that recipe! I hate those little green-sashed tyrants! They keep upping the prices, jerky little yankee imperialist running dogs who need all the support from their mums they can get whilst selling their addictive and overpriced baked goods.

HOMEMADE THIN MINT RECIPE!!! OMG!!!!!!1interjectionwithanexplationpointbecausethefeelingisstrong!

I always thought The Bionic Woman was wayyyy cooler than The Six Million Dollar Man. Why? Because she could open a can of tuna with her frickin' fingernail. Now them's some useful bionics!

WolfDaddy: just think of what else she could do with those bionic fingernails eh? the mind boggles...

CitrusFreak12: GIVE IN TO THE POWER OF THE DAR... oh, wait. yea, what you said.

I *heart* this recipe, by the way. let me just say that it is WELL worth the hassle and kitchen-trashing mess of doing the chocolate coating deal.

I've always been more of a Peanut Butter Patties gal myself. Classic Shortbreads ain't bad neither.

(I can't be trusted with girl scout cookies.)

*wrestles the PB Patties away from pips, runs away screaming mine, mine, all mine*

Oh that guy in the link is so wrong about the bottle opener. I use the fuckadoodle out of it.

Glad I could help, lfr, but others made the same recommendation, too. Personally, I loves me my well made manual tools. Like Crescent pliers and Klein screwdrivers, for some things, there aren't good substitutes, and using the genuine article is a small continuing pleasure, for years and years.

yeah but you were a) first and b) provided links and c) waxed eloquent upon the subject.

dont get me started about tools, dude. you prolly don't recall that I was a professional bike wrench for a span.

ikky, my roommate uses a bic lighter as a bottle opener. I think that just depends on what you have readily available at the mo.

tho on the subject of schex-shay tools, i do believe this one fits the bill. and in case you're wondering 'why?', the answer is that all fixed gear riders carry a 15mm wrench in order to remove bolt-on wheels from the dropouts in case of a puncture.
