fuckadoodle dammit! [More:]

ow ow fuckity fuck! medic!!

so someone please explain to me why we can build terabyte sized hard drives and put men in space but no one can seem to build a goddamn can opener that will last more than six months. i've tried just about every kind and even the spendier manual ones bend/break/go dull. we had 3 when i moved in with aaron, and i just torpedoed our last one and sliced my finger open on a can of catfood. bleh.

anyone care to hope me? id go look online but i'm trying to get a metric asston of laundry wrangled right at the mo and the internets have a bad habit of sucking me in and not releasing me til like one AM.

and no i don't want an electric one. disregarding the environmental concerns, our kitchen's too bloody small.
The kind that pierces the side so the lid fits back on top hasn't caused me any problems at all.

fuckadoodle dammit!

I love this curse so much that I wish to marry it.

I was gonna post a link to the perfect can opener (smooth edges, no ouchies!) but then I saw that you don't want an electric one so...ok then. But you'd totally love it.

For consistency, ease of operation, broad spectrum of cans it will open, and sheer longevity, it is impossible, IMHO, to beat the Swing Away Canopener. And, believe me, I've spent hundreds of U.S. dollars on everything from P-38's to the best electrics.

If you want food innacan, outacan, get a Swing Away.

This one looks like mine but mine was priced more like this one.
It was possibly from Williams Sonoma but it wasn't on sale that i remember and it was a while ago. i could be mistaken, but they don't have it available online.

Chowhound and most other sites agree with paul.

I have one of the hand held ones that cuts the side of the can... and three others. I don't think we've ever had a problem with any of them. Ever. Hmmm...

The electric under-cabinet opener I have is ancient and is finally dying. Need another one but I haven't seen any I like. I hate non-electric can openers.

i think youll have to ask IRFH for its hand cos if memory serves he (or one of his ilk) coined it in the 'mathowie's community blog' thread. it's the unholy spawn of one of the more famous mefites anyhows, cos lord knows im not witty enough to come up with a turn of phrase like that. i mean what the christ i cant even outsmart a fucking can opener.

paulsc: thanks - mebbe its a quality issue cos that looks kinda like the one that just ate my finger. guess i gotta quit buying cheapo Target potmetal ones.

eth: eenteresting. i've had a bunch of different kinds but the safety kind might bear a look.

i also dont like the electric kind cos they tend not to open big quart cans of chicken stock, etc. easily.

My mother has a SwingAway that she's been using for at least 30 years. I remember she opened my dog's first can of food with it, and that dog's been in the ground for a dog's age.

My parents only recently retired the Swing-A-Way that we had when I was a kid. There are two more in the drawer, one a Swing-A-Way that's still going strong (15 years, maybe?) and the other a no-name that I've had to sharpen twice, and that constantly leaves those little half-inch arcs of the can that are still attached.

My Swing-A-Way is prolly 15 years old. Like this one here. But with white handles.

I just use the one on my Swiss Army knife. It doubles as a flathead screwdriver!

I don't know... fuckadoodle dammit sounds like one of those new dog breeds, like when you cross a poodle with Sam, the Ugliest Dog in the World. Either that or the uncensored lyrics to "Yankee Doodle Dandy" ("Fuckadoodle came to town, riding on his Swing-a-Way, Stuck a WHAT in his WHAT and called it macaroni?")

I like my swiss army openner too. Simple like the P-38 with 5 times the leverage.

I'm really sorry about the whole can opener thing, but thanks for reminding me about fuckadoodle.

I used to say "fuckadoodledoo" like, every other word, and I loved it.

That reminds me, I'm currently without means the ability to open a can; if it comes in a can, and doesn't have it's own little pull-top thingy, I can't eat it. My old can opener, similar to the swing-a-way, is completely dull and useless, and the thing that my gadgets shop convinced me to replace it with is a mystery wrapped in an enigma - I can't figure out how the consarned contraption works, despite the fact that they kind of showed me how in the shop. It's the best, though! It's Russian! Very, very good! All the guys in the market use it to open those huge cans of olives! The best!

I'm sure that mr. taz will be able to figure it out once he gets his hands on it... and that pisses me off. :)

Damn mr. taz and his capable hands!

Like I haven't said that a million times.
