How fast can you type? Just a straight on typing test to gauge your wpm. Mine was 73. When I first became addicted to the internets I could only hunt and peck, and now I'm typing pretye dran faats!
130.99. And yet, I felt sort of slow- I think reading something and transcribing it is different than typing something that is coming out of your brain.
105.77 zero mistakes. I've actually slowed down a lot in my old age. I also think transcribing is different from "typing as fast as you think" or whatever...
94.35, no mistakes. I think it'd be a more realistic test if there were more characters/numbers, etc.
or yea matildaben, code.
muddgirl and iconomy, I type like you do and never learned a 'correct' style. I think I use eight fingers or something weird like that. my left arm was in a sling / cast / brace for vast tracts of the 2 years in high school when they taught this stuff to us.
which is scary considering I'm a secretary by trade. I prefer to use a dictaphone tho; it's by far the fastest way I can type. I've scored as high as 105-110 using those and fortunately my accuracy always seems to be very high not that you'd know it to read my discussion board prose...
For those of you who used to live as a data entry drone, try this 10-key test. I used to be the fastest 10-keyer on the central coast of California (at least according to various temp agencies) but that was 15 years ago, and I flailed so badly at this test I'm not even gonna post my results :-)
I never use my right-hand pinky finger, and I have using the ring finger on my right hand. I feel almost left-hand dominant when I'm typing, although I'm a righty.
Well, I tried it again and got 88.04. This time I didn't use the stylus to click in the box (and then set the stylus back in its holder), but used the tab key to click inside the box. Now I feel a little better. But still jealous.
Also--are people getting typing as fast as they possibly can, or at their usual speed? Because my usual speed (and, for that matter, my no-mistakes speed) is much, much slower.
Same here, iconomy. I type normally between 60 and 70, which I've thought was pretty good considering that I am a hunt and pecker and still have to occasionally look at my hands.
I got 57 and was pleased till I read the rest of this thread...but I have doubled my speed in the last three years or so, so I won't worry about it. I'm a selftaught touch typist so I don't think that's too bad.
IRFH, you crack me up. I got 63 I never learned much from typing class. My hands float. I remember this typing game we had to play where as you typed words stairs appeared - you had to make stairs to save the elephant on top of the flag pole. I spent more time wondering how the elephant got on the flag pole in the first place.
I took it twice. The first time I got 98 with 2 errors. The second time I got 120 with 1 error. And that was at my comfortable speed. When I'm typing what I'm thinking I think I go even faster than that. A co-worker who sits near me and occasionally IM and ask if my keyboard is smoking. Thank you journalism school and the goal to be able to type as fast as I can think. Thankfully I'm not the manic type.
