Also, Eideteker, it wasn't such a big discovery about figuring out the profile pages comment/post history thing. We pretty much figured everyone would eventually click on their own profile at some point and figure that out. It's okay that you (or anybody) had fun with that - it was built in.

I never figured the trick out. Plus it was more fun guessing. I managed to spot most comments by Pips, Wino, Hugh, TrishaLynn, and gaspode, but even they managed to fool me a few times. I doubt I fooled anyone.

I'm glad we got it on then, taz. We'll have to do it again next year.

What I really like about the whole thing is that today feels like the aftermath of a party and yesterday felt like one of the best kind of parties. You know, the kind where you feel a little out of it as soon as you get there. Nothing is quite normal, but things aren't that different. It is, I believe, a little like the air of tense but exhilarating anticipation some psychotropic drugs induce before the main weirdness kicks in. So I'm told anyway.

I can't think of a better way of injecting a frisson of festivity into an online community. Taz and Dodgy are to be congratulated.

Also, the whole "going back over what was posted by whom" thing is just like trying to remember what actually happened at last night's party.

It took me a while to realise though (are we allowed lists?).

1/ I wasn't "Penis" for the whole day
2/ People didn't have the one static name
3/ The "posted by" field was therefore arbitrary
4/ Posting histories would let one know that one's guess of, say, puke&cry, was actually correct
5/ RSS would save even the guessing.

That whole business of iconomy & n@ over the "edit" button was funny though. As a lurker on MeFi, I'm never fooled by the spoofed comments which have [!] in them because I don't (as a non-member) ever see the flag option. Iconomy's [edit] was a similar giveaway. (Which was all Eideteker was trying to say, but iconomy seemed to think there were accusations)!

Not an edit. The bit in red that says "edit".

I'm not a MeFi, so I don't see the [!] that lets members flag posts. So when someone tries to spoof a post, they always put the [!] in it. Because I never see them, spoofed posts always stand out (to me).

Because you are a mod, you always see a red [edit] at the end of posts. None of us non-mods see them. So when you cut'n'paste something that has [edit] in it, everyone who isn't a mod can tell it's your post (or at least a post by a mod) because the "[edit]" is in there (which it never is for us).

I hope you can see that Eideteker wasn't accusing you of anything, just doing some sleuthing.

(kidding...I get it now. Now that the patently obvious has been painstakingly explained by GeckoDundee...)

What's confusing is that Eideteker's quote in his post about the EDIT link is it is that Pretty flower's bit and not iconomy's screenshot even though he mentions her post by time. If I were iconomy, I'd have interpreted the F.Pendant's post to be about the username synchronicity of pretty flowers and an insinuation that I had something to do with that.

Ah, I see now that she thought I thought she was behind the Pretty Flowers comment, when she was the one who posted the image of the Suck It, Haters (aka jonmc). It was totally obvious to me, but to no one else, once again proving that I am a colossal nerd with poor communication skills.

Big up to my detective partner GeckoDundee, for retracing my steps so carefully. Next time I stumble too-cleverly-for-my-own-britches into the international crime syndicate's evil secret lair, I'll count on you to piece together what happened to me and bring the cavalry.

Yes, but I was posolutely jazzed to figure it out, because other people hadn't. I had my fun, but apologize to those I confounded (my dear rainbaby). I know for a fact that some people figured it out because I posted about figuring it out, so I get the satisfaction of having helped others without the disappointment of having ruined the fun for those who didn't care to know. Like YCCMA today, I'd just gotten back from bombing a final, so I needed a little pick-me-up, and that did the trick nicely.

Oh man, I so loved yesterday - it was like all of metachat became an LT-like playground of Absurd Flux!

No surprises, although I loved Mudpuppie's rant and furious defense of the admins.

I miss being Pony Pony though.
