Today, I get to enter data on a series of comps called Stax Profiles (scroll down). Occasionally, this pointless soon to be lost job has small moments of joy. I'm working on Eddie Floyd right now. Here's "Big Bird," for a taste of the funky-ass bliss coming through my phones.→[More:] I learned from the liner notes that Big Bird,"> is bout the plane flight Floyd took to Otis Redding's funeral which was aborted due to an engine malfunction. Gives it a whole new cast.

I like the Jam, scody, but I don't think they touch the glory that was Eddie Floyd's version.

Awesome song. I got The Complete Stax Volt Singles for my girlfriend...and it's a goldmine. Eddie Floyd does a pretty good version of "Knock on Wood", too.

Also from the Stax/Volt catalogue, I love:

I love that song with all my heart. Get on UP big bird. My homeboys have a band and they do a great cover of that shit.
