TravelChat: Milan. The amore—it is inside.
We're taking a trip to France this summer. Originally we were flying in and out of Paris. Now I hear we're going to fly into Milan, Italy instead. What could a couple of slowfood/slow-everything types do in or around Milan for a day or two before hopping over to France? Sadly, we are not interested in fashion and as group (but not me) wouldn't be concerned with design. People who've been to Milan, speak up!

(Collectively, our French, Spanish, and German is decent. Our Italian, however, is non-existent.).

get tickets for La Scala, or Orchestra Verdi.

eat at Trattoria della Pesa or Trattoria Milanese or Ilia or Da Giacomo or -- if you're rich -- Aimo & Nadia.

catch some Piero della Francesca at Brera

you could do worse than check out Michaelangelo's Pietà Rondanini at Castello Sforzesco

try to avoid the Dan Brown loving hordes and go see l'Ultima Cena

call me (email in profile page)

oh, and Ho Chi Minh used to eat at Trattoria della Pesa, too. so you get awesome risotto al salto, cotoletta alla milanese and zabaione caldo, plus a bonus of anti-American points

Thanks for the suggestions w/links matteo. 'tis perfect. I'll get in touch closer to the trip.

Suggestion: take a specklet in your carry-on luggage.

I can hear it now....toothbrush, check. Pens and paper, check. Specklet, check. OK. carry-on is ready to go!

I say, get over to nyc and we'll see if you fit. It's a medium sized tote-bag.

her name is Specklet, not Pretzel, man

Though a surprising similarity of assonance occurs, it is true Specklet's not a pretzel. I had hopes that the disjunction was how the funny would occur. Perhaps it is not to be found there. My apologies to all involved.

now I'm confused. Is that specklet? Or is that "box"?

It doesn't look good for either of them. Ow.

Specklet is more petite than I'd suspected, but she's not quite that small.

I'm small! I can fit in carry-on luggage! Please take meeeee!

You are a tough negotiator Specklet. I cannot say no, but the three others on the trip just might. Let's wait 'til summer comes to see.

All you'd have to do is stuff some peanuts through the zipper. You'd never know I was there.

Then, when we got to Milan, you'd let me out and I'd run in circles around the baggage trolly, yapping excitedly.
