music box While I wait for this pumpkin cheesecake to bake, here's some more Radio Mecha.
Right now I'm playing a bunch of songs with 'summer' in their name--Coleman Hawkins, Beat Happening, Express Rising, Cassandra Wilson, John Coltrane and Tom Waits' 'The Last Rose of Summer,' which will be, all by itself, a smooth title-y segue into 'rose' songs.

Passed 'rose,' wrapping up 'blue' and moving into 'black.' Who sings that 'Black is Black' song ('Black is back/ I want my baby back/ It's gray, it's gray/ Since she went away...)? Did they sing anything else?

I'm stuck here at work so I can't listen, but I can tell you that "Black is Black" was done by Los Bravos. As far as I know, they were one-hit wonders.

Thanks, b. They deserve to have had, like, at least two or three more semi-hits. 'Black is Black' is awesome.

wow...jurassic 5 is brilliant!

The credit for that particular number should probably go to the Jurassic 5 DJs, Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark. The J5 rappers are pretty good, if you're into that Good-Life-Los-Angeles-underground-positive-old-school-harmony kind of thing, but I like the DJs much, much better.

Each of the J5 albums features a few DJ songs, but if you like 'Swing Set,' you might also enjoy Cut Chemist's solo work, and his collaborations with Shortkut (Live at the Future Primitive Sound Session) and DJ Shadow (Brainfreeze, Product Placement, etc.).

oh i didnt know that J5 were rappers. oh well.

Yup--skip J5 and go straight to Cut Chemist.

I'm wrapping things up with a couple goodnight songs. Thanks for listening, folks.

It's cooling as we speak, and it looks and smells pretty tasty. Here's the recipe I used.

Thanks Mr Box. That was a most agreeable set.

Thank you for the recipe, box!! I am totally going to bake this weekend. Do you do a glaze over it or leave it bare?
posted by go dog go 28 October | 00:44
It's the first time I've made this particular recipe, and I left it bare. I think I'm going to make another one fairly soon, though--do you have any glaze suggestions?
posted by box 28 October | 09:21
Yay thanks for the recipe - I'm going to make it this weekend too.

box, you know, if you need any quality assurance techs, I'd be more than happy to volunteer.
