Whatcha doin' this weekend? [More:]
I worked from home today and went for a run at lunchtime. I'm ready to join Lucy for a nap now - she's barely moved off the sofa all day. How can cats sleep so much and yet still look so tired all the time?

My plans to meet up with a friend tomorrow have been put on hold. We were going to meet in Cambridge, but she was finding it difficult to get there and back in time for something she's committed to tomorrow evening, so we re-arranged to meet in Birmingham, and I'd get the train up there. But that plan's been scuppered because the Tube is out on my line so I can't get to Euston without spending 2 hours on a bus first.

So, no plans for tomorrow. If I get up early enough I'll probably head out in the car somewhere for the day.

On Sunday I'll go for a run in the morning, and then I'm thinking about a movie, if there's something showing locally that I like the look of.

A pretty quiet weekend, but I have some busy weeks ahead so a little down time is good.

What are you doing?
1. There's a benefit tonight I got some people to go to but I don't know if I'm going to go yet. I could take off for the weekend, but gas is expensive and I guess it's snowing pretty badly up north.

2. I guess tomorrow depends on what I do today.

3. The Oscars are on and I may have people over to watch or study for my Spanish midterm. Maybe I'll make food.

I'm just playing it by ear.
A second ago it was snowing. Now the sun is out. It was raining earlier. The weather doesn't even know what it wants to do.

1. I have a show tonight! NYC bunnies, email me for details!

2. Stew is coming to town tomorrow!

3. Other than that, I'll be working from home quite a bit.

1. Going to a play tonight with my friend Matt. Haven't seen him in far too long.
2. Going out to CT tomorrow to look at baby stuff and hug some babies.
3. That's it, really.

1. I have plans for tomorrow, but they're calling for snow, and if it's bad I won't go.

2. I have a bunch of old VHS tapes of my nephew and niece in school shows that I promised my sister I'd put on DVD for her. Back in November. I need to get moving on that.

3. Hopefully more reading and less watching tv, but I have SO MANY channels in glamorous high definition it is sometimes hard to look away.

1. Birthday party of a college friend tonight at a bar in the city.
2. Friend coming in from Pburgh tomorrow, not sure what the plan is yet.
3. Oscar party at my friend's house! It's an annual tradition with 4 of my closest friends and I look forward to it for months. I haven't seen a bunch of the movies, and I'm pissed about Melancholia's snub, but it will be fun no matter what.

At some point this weekend I need to do some serious thinking about career stuff. I got frustrating news at work yesterday and I need to reevaluate whether this is what I want to do with my days.
I keep reminding myself that I have a job and things are basically ok, but I feel all torn up inside. Hate this crap.

As usual, lots of plans! But will I collapse and be a couch potato at some point, that is the question. Here's the agenda:

1. Tonight, weight lifting session and cook a Bittman veggie Indian lentil dish that looks pretty nice.

2. AM Saturday, walk the handsome dog. Then go to yoga class. Then head for what looks like a wonderful class on cooking various international vegetarian dishes in 30 minutes with the Bear. Then probably do the computer work I didn't do last weekend, and then PM probably watch Moneyball with my cool new Ipad to TV hookup with the Bear.

3. Sunday, walk the handsome dog. Then I hope the Bear wants to use my Groupon for local pancake house -- if not, breakfast at home with him and the paper, then probably my long run for the week and some more computer work. Will likely DVR the Oscars and start watchng the recording about an hour after the show starts so we can give the commercials a miss. Somewhere in there, do a little shopping for food for the coming week.

I was gonna go out and howl. But the moon's not full. Bummer.

Just went to lab today and am now back home to work for the rest of the day.

This is turning out to be a pretty social weekend. Today my boyfriend and I and another couple are planning to go to a steakhouse-ish place on the water -- where I've never been -- looking forward to that.

Tomorrow I should work, but have been invited to a party at 9 pm by one of my feminist book club members -- exciting to find to new circles of people to interact with!

Then on Sunday we'll be going to this pan-Asian restaurant for dinner, which is supposed to be really good with another friend. So basically, a lot of eating (and probably a fair bit of drinking) with work in between.

It's not this weekend, but I just found out I got my first MAIN STAGE show at my theater. People are going to PAY to see me perform improv! OMG! =D =D =D

NOT REHEARSING until Sunday, which means that I can't watch the Oscars at my friend's ginormous Oscar party, which makes me very sad.

However, we can still go to the pre-Oscar party bowling event on Saturday (I told you it was big!).

I just made a plan for tomorrow. Yet again, my compact Panasonic camera has broken. This is the second camera in a year where the zoom has stuck. Last time, it wasn't economically viable to repair so I bought a replacement, but this time I also took out the 3-year warranty, which I think will turn out to be £35 well spent.

So, it'll be buses all the way to Stratford, then the DLR to Canary Wharf to take the camera back. I quite like getting the bus, as it's a novelty for me, particularly if I can get a seat on the top deck.

I second that the weather doesn't know what it wants to do. After the snow Sunday, it was close to 80F today. Now it's getting all dark and thundery. Next week looks to be a stretch of 60s.

Tonight I'm meeting friends (former coworkers) for dinner at Bonefish Grill. I should check on today's specials.

Otherwise, I need to do laundry badly. And to clean badly. So that may be my Saturday. Yoga is a possibility as I did not go Tuesday, which means I have an extra class to use up.

I was considering doing something time consuming with my hair so that may be my Sunday. Or I could sit around and read, which is more likely.

I also need to make progress on a baby hat. I have 2 I want to make and at the rate I've been crafting lately, the babies will be here before the hats are done.

Today (Friday): errands and cooking for the week
Saturday morning: cleaning and laundry.
Satuday afternoon: if my friend can get to my place, Indian food and a viewing of Waiting for Guffman. If the weather is too bad for him to risk driving to the city, I shall sew.
Sunday: working on the attic reno
Monday: Drywaller is coming to begin work on a few things in the house. He'll be there a total of three days that week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) and I've booked those days off and will spend them working on other things in the house.

Saturday we're going to this pub theatre mini-opera. Other than that, pretty quiet.

I've just joined Zipcar so was thinking of going for a drive somewhere on Sunday, but it might be too stressful since I don't drive much and there's a lot on my plate at the moment.

Weather is a mix of rain and snow this weekend so any plans are subject to change/cancellation:

Friday: might get my shit together enough to go shopping for jeans and shoes, but I wouldn't count on it
Saturday: used book sale at local library
Sunday: jeans and shoe shopping if today (Friday) is a bust

I've done little the past couple days except eat, sleep, and watch TV, with a little reading and internet thrown in. I see no reason for this trend not to continue over the weekend. I am still beyond exhaustion. I just have to get through the rest of the school year.

I went to see my mom on Tuesday at the nursing home. She had been in the hospital with an infection in her legs and feet, and now she's in the nursing home for awhile before she goes back to her apartment at Assisted Living. She is feeling much better, which I'm grateful for. After our visit, I stopped by the house, which was largely cleared out after the estate sale my brother contracted last weekend. It was so sad being in that near empty house, little price stickers on various knick-knacks, like my father's bridge trophy. My old bedroom was completely bare. Even the shoe rack in the closet was gone. The pink walls looked so dingy. And my mom looking up at me with big sad eyes, They sold my piano. What could I say? I feel so helpless. It seems like sadness is my new base state. I cry all the time. I don't know how to help myself feel better. It feels like I've been grieving since my mom's fall last summer. I feel like I failed her.

Sorry to spill all this in a what's-up-weekend thread. I'm such a mess. And I hate burdening Jon all the time. He doesn't complain, but it's got to be tiresome. I probably shouldn't post this. I'm not fit for human company, digital or otherwise.

Lunges! So! Many! LUNGES!

I might be kinda hyped up on caffeine and exercise. I somehow forgot about lunges; my knees have been so crunchy that I've had to skip a chunk of physical therapy for weeks at a time, but just last night (prompted by an AskMe question I saw) I realized that lunges would fill that slot nicely until my knees are stronger and more flexible. I've been doing them on and off all day with no super-crunching. YAY ME.

I'm also finishing up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which I HATE and also find weirdly compelling. I know I'm going to read the next one but I'm angry with myself for wanting to.

The plan for tonight: Doctor Who (if available; otherwise, La Femme Nikita) and gyoza with sesame broccoli.

Other than that, NOTHING. All my excitement is in going to NYC. WOOT!

My only real plan is to make beef-barley-spinach soup. Braising a flank steak with celery and onions now. I will finely chop some fresh tomato for a garnish.

Other than that, I scored a few intriguing books recently, so my 4 year rejection of reading is likely over.

Ooooh, pips, I am so sorry you're down in the dumps. Sounds like you're going through some heavy, heavy times. Hugs and hugs.

Oh, pips, that sounds so hard.

The way you've talked about your mother here, it sounds like you're doing a lot to keep her spirits up, as well as doing many things of practical value. It's natural that you'll feel down about it, especially seeing the house almost empty: that's a jolt, to see just the rag-tag few things left.

But you're doing well by her, it sounds like, and you deserve to treat yourself well too. Is there something you can do for yourself this weekend?

In any case, I'm sending good wishes your way.

Pips, you are a wonderful daughter to your mom, going up to see her so often, talking on the phone regularly, doing as much as you can around your own very busy life, and it's clear from what you've told us about her how much you love her. Please don't beat yourself up over what's happened.

That's nice of y'all to say... I do appreciate it. I should just make myself a cup of tea and put myself to bed, sad sack that I am. Love y'all.

Pips, you're going through a huge shift in your world. You're hurting not only for your Mom but also for the little girl who could always count on her Mom to be the one who was always there for her. Be kind to that bewildered little girl and give her an extra heaping of love and understanding.
Warm hugs to you. (((Pips)))

**love to Pips**

I'm going to do as little as possible this weekend. I did a whirlwind SELL ALL THE THINGS AND SELL THE HOUSE NOW that no joke, was nine days start to finish.

And all because I missed a zero in the checkbook register. I kid you not.

But! I have money in the bank, finally getting my car fixed after three weeks sitting lonely in the driveway, and I'm not putting money into that poor little house that I haven't lived in for a year.

My neighbor is bringing over her bedspread tomorrow to launder in my washer. (Mine has delicate setting)

I'll bake a couple types of wheat bread this weekend to replenish Mom's stock.

Working on more tax paperwork and figuring out financial stuff.

Sewing! I took my ancient machine in for tune-up and am anxious to see how it goes. Mostly need to mend and hem; but, hope it spurs me into something more creative.

I happened to have off today, so I picked up my new glasses, and got a haircut as well. It's been raining pretty much all day, so it's nice to be home, warm and cozy now.

Work tomorrow. Which is strangely enjoyable with my new immediate manager.

Sunday is up for grabs. Depending on weather, mood, etc. Either way, it'll be a good day.

Yay Eide! *whuffles for pips*

Spent this morning fussing with making phone calls (neurologist, girly doc, hair dresser) and waiting for my brother to show up to fix my kitchen faucet. (The faucet was loose and the little pull out hose wasn't coming out.)

Then I went to Ashton so my mother and I could go to the renovated Safeway, which was absolutely packed, but that was probably because they had a special 30% off booze with an extra 10% off if you bought 6 bottles of wine. Got 2 six packs of Woodchuck Amber and 5 bottles of wine. Aw yeah.

Tomorrow's agenda includes CLEANING ALL THE THINGS because it is time for my quarterly house cleaning, Wicca class, and being domestic and shit.

Sunday is the start of the work week for me. March is going to be a crazy month.

Pips, you are a good daughter, you really are. Tea and a nap or read/watch something comforting sounds like a plan. Take care of yourself, sweetie. Big hugs.

Pips, please relax and take pleasure from your reading, internets, and TV watching. And please let us know if we can help in any way.

You are a super daughter, but you are not a god and you can't change past events or make all OK for your mom. You can only do what you are doing -- your best.

Hope this weekend holds some respite for you.

Internet hugs from me, too.

Thanks again for all your kind thoughts, everyone. You're all so sweet. It means a lot. I'm feeling a little better. I had some tea, and Jon's home, and a new episode of Grimm is on, and tomorrow's another day. Hugs back to everyone.

Had to work last weekend, so this weekend I'm going to be a slug. That entails: lots of video games and beer. Which has been the main event tonight.

We're hoping to do our taxes this weekend, and Guinness the cat needs to go to the vet for a quick checkup. If it's as rainy/nasty as they're predicting for the weekend, that may be the extent of our leaving-the-house stuff... probably gonna stay home for more video games and maybe a movie or two.

Hugs to Pips! I completely empathize with what you're going through. Heed the advice of others in this thread and take good care of yourself while you go through the pain, and know that you are doing things right even though it always feels like you're doing things wrong. We expect our actions to make us feel better, so when we do what we have to do and then feel sad, it makes us doubt our actions. Not fun.

Wellman movies, gym and temple yesterday.

More Wellman movies and Oscars tomorrow.

The optho says what's going on with my eyes isn't cataracts but something with the nerve (I can't see when bright light shines in my eyes unless I shade them) and wants to run a test Monday before sending me to a neuro-optho. She has told me I can drive.

Oh Pips, please be gentle with yourself, sweetie.

This weekend:
Working. Client meetings. Design reviews. Number crunching. Treadmill daily for 30, watching tons of college basketball between projects.

I really would like a weekend with no meetings or deadlines, lots of naps & playing with the pups.

Business is steady: several projects about to go to installation & I finally have a great team to help it happen. Yay!!

The above is especially good since I have surgery next week to take out a pesky ganglion cyst that will. not. go. away. It's nerve wracking b/c A) I've never had general anesthesia and B) it's my dominant hand. I'm trying not to panic.
