An inability to understand sarcasm may be an early warning sign of brain disease. [More:]

Brain disease. That would explain my relationship with my Father. I am forever saying sarcastic things to him, as if to say I am commiserating with you, and he takes it as a direct insult to his person.

Also interesting is are regional differences:
". . . 56 percent of Northerners found sarcasm humorous while only 35 percent of Southerners did.

AS a side, I recall research that was conducted in the last year, on the perceived truthfulness of the Colbert Show. It was found that Conservatives overwhelmingly believe that Colbert's character is not a front but a subtle way of getting the truth out to the public. In other words, Conservatives believe he is sincere; they believe he is Conservative, just like them.

All-in-all I found much to think about in this article. Hope you do to.

Oh, so not useful or interesting. (See, I do too still have my marbles!)

Slight derail. . .one of my coworkers, whom I like a lot (despite him being an evangelical Limbaugh fan, so he must be pretty special for me to like him) started not being able to speak coherently. The diagnosis was "word salad," and he's been in the hospital for scans galore. Finally they found a "mass" in is brain, and he has to wait until next Monday for them to go in and biopsy it. Which seems like forever. I have no idea whether I will have any more conversations with him or not. He understands what's going on, but cannot put a sentence together.

Gives me more appreciation for what's left of my brain, I guess.

That is really sad, danf, and he must be a frustrated as frightened right now. I hope he comes through.
