You've just been given a bar.. .. what are you going to name it?
My favorite real life bar name was the on-campus pub at U.C. Davis which was called "The Last Resort". That name was submitted in a contest, and got the most votes by students. The reason it was good was that the student counseling center was called "The First Resort". Naturally when "The Last Resort" got it's name, there was a big outcry from people with no sense of humor. Who knows, it may still yet exist to this day.
somebody here in SLO is already using the greatest pub name EVER, The Frog and Peach. If I were competing with it, I'd be tempted to name it Cook & Moore's.
maybe The Cultural Center, if a large portion of the clientele have to tell their significant others where they're spending all their time...
or Claven's, after my favorite character on Cheers (can you imagine how weird a place he'd own would be?)
considering puns like The Pub Lisher, The Inn Site, The Plane Site (if it's near the airport), The Brew's Rib (for a beer and BBQ place), The Tender Foot, The Beveraged Lie-Out, Raisin the Bar or Club Baby Seals but I'd probably fall back on The Swell Foop just to see it on a sign.
The Library is a scummy little bar in this here little college town. It's amusing until you go in, and the DJ isn't very good and the music is way too loud for a glorified closet. But no cover, so some groups meet there before deciding where else to go.
Personally, I still dream of the Polar Bar, which is always pleasantly cool. Stuffy bars + good music = everyone gets sweaty, and I don't like that equation.
My hometown library was converted into a bar & grill. It's called The Old Library. Friends say that eating and drinking beer there still feels very weird.
There used to be a place near where I live called 'The Office'. Often walked by it, and largish windows let you see into it very well; but I've never quite been able to lose the image of a bar decorated with room dividers and filing cabinets.
I love pubs with names like Rose & Lion, with a sign that has a nice painting of a lions covered in roses. Mine would be the Raven and Thistle. My family name is Scottish, hence the thistle, and there's a family story about ravens, of interest only to us. A painting of a raven and thistles appeals to me.
