Some love for the 5th Dimension [More:] Not nearly as popular as ABBA, but while I was zoning out on ABBA yesterday I remembered Wedding Bell Blues (yeah, my mind takes some weird turns). From there I found some other songs by the band I really think are excellent, including The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In and One Less Bell to Answer.

Heck, even the over-exposed Up, Up and Away has a jazzy vibe that's cool to me today even thought I thought it was a corny song when it first came out.

In an interesting side note, you can see Marilyn McCoo explicitly sings parts of the Wedding Bell Blues to Billy Davis, Jr., who responds with quizzical looks. At the time they found the song and recorded it, they had just gotten engaged but hadn't set a wedding date yet. They ended up getting married in 1969 and are still married. I think that's sweet.
5th Dimension songs are some of the very earliest pop songs that I can remember being brand new on the radio.

When I was in cotillion in the mid-70s, we danced to this.

Like JanetLand, I remember being a little kid and hearing these songs. I still like 'em, too.

I wore out my cassette of The Fifth Dimension's Greatest Hits. Love, love, love them.

When I was a kid, I heard their version of "Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" before I was aware of "Hair" so theirs will always be THE version of the song for me. I used to twirl around the living room listening to that until I was dizzy. Even now, when I hear it, I get a giddy feeling.

We're talking Stoned Soul Picnic here, aren't we? Classic.

No, we're about Stoned Cold Picnic, the Metallica song (which was later covered by Queen).
