Thank you for this. Our plans for my dad, who has frontotemporal dementia and has been hospitalized three times in the last year, include hospice. But deciding when to do that is going to be difficult in itself.

I'm interested in the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment Paradigm, but it isn't yet legally implemented in our area. It sounds like POLST is close to what this guy is thinking of, but I'm not even 100% sure about how POLST interacts with living wills and HCPOAs.

Hospice was wonderful for us when my father was dying, dhartung. Not only did they help us with palliative care and advice, but also offered counseling for him and for us. I wish that we had turned to a hospice organization for help when my late partner was dying, knowing what I know now.
