13 January 2010

I have yet to see a Domino's pizza that has even half the amount of toppings as shown in their advertisements.

Does the owner no longer contribute to Operation Rescue?

Well that is a good thing because my husband, being the thrifty person that he is, always suggests Domino's (because it is the least expensive) when I want to order pizza. Domino's is a poor product.

I won't be able to experience the nostalgic taste of all-night D&D sessions anymore.

What Obscure Reference said. Also, are they still redlining?

What's the phrase Kevin from The Office uses to describe the pizza from the crappy take-out place? I believe it's "hot wheels of garbage". Yep, that's pretty much Domino's.

Obscure Reference beat me to it.

According to Snopes, he's out of the picture:

Whatever one might think of Tom Monaghan's selection of social causes, and no matter how one views the question of direct versus indirect underwriting of them via pizza monies, it's all moot now. These days none of the revenues that flow into Domino's reach this controversial man, so no portion of what a customer pays for a medium pepperoni-and-cheese funds the causes he supports. Monaghan sold his Domino's Pizza empire to Bain Capital Inc. for $1 billion in 1998.

This just shows that they've hit bottom. When I saw the ad, it said to me: "Hey, we suck. You know we suck and we know we suck. But we promise to do better. Trust us."

And I can't trust them. Granted, we do order from them occasionally (I usually make my own), but my expectations couldn't be lower. The only reason I order from them is they deliver, they are at the end of our street, and my family has no taste when it comes to pizza (despite a couple of mom & pop joints that make, imho, much better pizza).

I don't especially like it, but it does have a certain fast-food-pizza thing that I don't hate.

Don't usually order from them, anyway. Last pizza I had was a DiGiornos.

I don't think that I've had a Domino's pizza in twenty years, there are so many other local choices.

A billion for making pizza that sucks! I wonder if pizza that doesn't suck (as much) is worth more or less than that.

Bain owns my company too! And Dunkin Donuts. I am in such mediocre company.

I do not believe the new pizza will be any more palatable, but I am curious to try it to see what they think "better" is.

From a comment on that other site:

The new default sauce is too sweet, even though it does have a noticeable spice to it. The new hand-tossed crust with garlic flavor tasted basically like chewy garlic bread that wasn't baked for long enough. There was a noticeable squirt of garlic butter as I chomped on the ends of the crust.

Pizza by focus group is pretty awful. Too many competing flavors.

MAN
Okay, how many of you kids would like Itchy & Scratchy to deal with real-life problems, like the ones you face every day?

[The kids all cheer and agree]

MAN
And who would like to see them do just the opposite - getting into far-out situations involving robots and magic powers?

[More cheering]

MAN
So... you want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots?

[Again, cheers]

MILLHOUSE
And also, you should win things by watching!

Well, Pizza Hut recently changed their recipe to crap, so we went with Dominoes. It does taste better than PH, and the online ordering process is pretty sweet.

They were redlining in my town, but one opened up near me (on the wrong side of the trax), so now I can get them delivered too.

For this reason, and also because I grew up in New Jersey and thus have ...opinions about pizza, I have had Domino's only enough times to count maybe on one hand - a few situations where I was volunteering for something and someone brought in a pie for dinner and it was Domino's. It always was the lowest order of pizza, right down there with skating-rink pizza that sits and rotates on that little round sheet-metal heat-lamp. Even though now I guess they're only as evil as any other megacorporation rather than as evil as a murderous faux charity, I still don't think I'll try the new version. Life's too short and there's too much really good pizza out there.
