Here's something fun for you to do. (No, really.)

1. Go to gmail.com. You must be logged out of all accounts.[More:]

2. Click on Create a New Account. Don't worry, you don't have to see the process through to the end.

3. Scroll down to the captcha/word verification. Click the wheelchair icon, which is going to make it much easier for you to read the captcha text.

4. Is the captcha text clearer now?
Forgot 1a: Make sure speaker volume is turned up.

It wants me to install Quicktime.

The captcha text looks identical and I hear the voices of demons.

Demons = not fun.

(I didn't mean "is it clearer visually?" I meant did the demonic voices help you decipher the text?)

(I wish I could record and play-back the demonic chorus -- which has what sounds like an Indian accent, by the way -- for Obscure Reference.)

I have clicked on such things before when I have been unable to decipher a captcha and heard the demons and it never helped but I assumed that my ears were as handicapped as my eyes and that I needed some sort of touch or smell version to distinguish myself from a bot, so I am pleased to hear (so to speak) that it's not just me.

Strange... all of a sudden, I have an urge to send Robert Tilton some money.

What...what was that? Was I supposed to type the 30 seconds of weird noises?

Oh man, I frickin' love the Google audio captcha. I'm constantly playing this to techy people for the lols.

(Not to detract from the uber weirdness, but the audio captcha is actually totally unrelated to the visual captcha. Instead, you should be listening out for a short series of numbers. Even armed with that knowledge, though, the Google audio captcha is widely regarded as pretty much impossible to get right.)

Had to switch over to IE to hear it. I'm doubly disturbed now.

OMG I am laughing so hard tears of mirth or possibly fear are rolling down my face - the dogs came in to see what the hell was going on. I thought you were exaggerating. You were not exaggerating; hell, you were not even being strong enough.

what the hell was that?! I kept hearing a word that sounded like "five" mixed in with some other unintelligible sounds.

What a gorgeous voice. I wish to marry that woman.

That was hysterical! I swear at one point the alien said "chemically produced."

hahahahah

I'd swear it's Chinese number-reading, but my soul was sucked out the third time I refreshed the page. I did like the "Once again" before an unrelated strng of numbers, though.

hahahaha! Not one person has ever successfully used that to log into/create an account, ever. EVER! Amazing. I love that the people in charge must have listened to this stuff and said, "yup, mmhm, that's fine; that'll work just dandy."
