If it's immodesty they're concerned about, then blacking out the images makes sense. Replacing them with others is deception.

What's scary(ier) about these people is that they're all having 8-12 children each. Who are now growing up and starting to vote. A whole society of fundamentalists, as we have seen, is not healthy.

Restrictions include using only Kosher telephones, and not accessing websites with content deemed inappropriate.

One of my lecturers when I was doing my law degree at night school was an Orthodox Jew. I remember during a Tube strike, I walked miles to get to class. Only I and another woman were able to get there. This guy walked in, looked around and said "Ah, I see nobody's turned up" and he walked out and there was no class that night. To him we didn't exist.

We complained, but were told we were being racist and would be suspended if we persisted.

Don't worry- even in Israel most Jews don't share these beliefs. You just hear about the crazier ones. Like with any country, we just get the news about the extremes. I am sure there've been some fringe papers in the U.S. that have done similarly crazy things.

Whoa, the kosher telephone is ingenious:

Dialing and other electronic operations on the "Shabbat phone" are performed in an indirect way so that the person using the phone is not directly closing electrical circuits. Instead, an electronic eye scans the phone buttons every two seconds.

If a button has been pressed, the eye activates the phone's dialing system. This indirect way of activation is called a grama.

I think the early ruling was that opening an electrical circuit counts as "kindling a fire", so this avoids that.
