What's the best payment in kind you ever got? I did some database work for a Green race and got paid in, erm, green..
Money.

I did some fairly intensive editing of a friend's dissertation a few years back (smart woman, fine scholar, clumsy writer). In return, she gave me her upright piano, which seemed like way too much for the work I'd done, but she was about to move across the country and couldn't bring it with her anyway. (I played it for a few years, and then when I in turn was preparing to move across the country, passed it along to a friend whose daughter wanted piano lessons.)

Once in college, a girl offered me a full-body massage in exchange for writing a paper for her. For some reason that escapes me now, I took cash instead. She was later a contestant on a reality show. What the hell was I thinking?

We got our sheep as part of a barter. I redid our neighbour's website and she paid us in sheep.

I proofed and gave feedback on an article for a MeFite and got an incredibly beautiful piece of original art in return. That was pretty cool.

I cut mat boards and the like for some friends in college. They paid me in 6 packs. (I had hours I would be at the art building and people would drop by with their six pack and their boards.)

When I was a winemaker, I often bartered wine for stuff. It was great for vet bills.

One time I cooked a good dinner, and got some nookie in return.

Only once though.

A time-honored tradition when two willing parties can agree on this wonderful trade!

Did I forget to thank you? Thank you.
