16 December 2008

In our MeCha Xmas pageant, guess who'll be great as Tiny Tim? Remember my toe woe yesterday, and my insole middle-aged moment a few weeks ago. Well, long story short, the pain got so bad yesterday that I went to the emergency room today and I learned that I've been gallavanting around on a stress fracture of the bone behind my third toe for a couple of weeks. My foot's all wrapped up and I have crutches, I haven't quite got the hang of, but I also get a week off and an oxcodone scrip. God bless us, every one!
Oh my! Glad to see you are on the mend.

Too bad it's not a plaster cast or I'd have you all sign it.

ack! Do you have any idea how that happened?
posted by taz 16 December | 13:25
I'm assuming from all the lifting and toting and dragging I do on the job.

That. Is. Brilliant. Casting. Get better soon!

Well, that's worrying. Do you think you can work out something where you're notlifting and toting and dragging?

I think I'll be ok once I let this heal and maybe wear some more appropriate shoes than Chuck Taylors.

Ouch, I hope it's not too painful.

Ow. Can ya be the bouncer for awhile?

Oh, shit. Foot fractures are no damn fun.

Be well, man.

Dude, I just took my first Percocet. I'll be better than well shortly.

Been there. No fun.

Stress fractures suck. I had one in my right foot from too many years of waiting tables in a place with terrazzo floors. Ouch. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Stay off it for as long as possible, and WEAR SHOES WITH PROPER ARCH SUPPORT (ie, not Chucks).

The good thing is it'll heal stronger than it was, and you'll always be able to tell when it's going to rain.

Cructhes are also one way (being on fire is the other) that will get Noo Yawkers out of your way.

Percocet helped kill an old boyfriend. Be careful with them.

don't worry about me, melismata, I'm handy with substances. Although, I have to admit that I'm feeling pleasantly loopy right now.

I feel for you. I have the ongoing joy of sesamoiditis in both feets. Did you know that your sesamoids are the size of jellybeans? Feet jellybeans.

You've been walking on that for nearly a month? Yikes. Glad you're on the mend and got the good drugs. Maybe Satan Santa will bring you some good shoes.

Opiates make me puke if they're just the eensiest bit too strong. That sucks.
posted by Stewriffic 16 December | 17:48
And (duh!) feel better!

The Doctor is >IN

Yoiks. Stay off of your feet, #1. R&R #2— feet up comfortably.

That, over oxcodone. Which sounds like way over the top for a stress fracture... I'm thinking, if you stay off of your feet, the pain is way less, no? 2 - Extra strength ibuprofen [400mg] 2 x's a day?

#3. Immediately, proper footwear. Freaking Keds and on your feet all day? No way. As a painter, I'd recommend steel toe and shank non slip oil and shock resistant sole. Your feet and back will thank you. Especially if you drop a box 'o books on your toe. You'll feel sure footed like a mountain lion, I'm telling ya.

#4. Proper socks with those industrial mid cuts. Wool. Never cotton, it'll chaff the hell outta your feet, get sweaty and wet, clammy.... step outside and your feet will freeze.

They aren't that heavy to wear, there are Kevlar reinforced ones instead of steel that are lighter, may cost a few bucks more.

Redarding the oxy...I've known folks seriously addicted to that stuff. Definitely take it, but after 3-4 days along with staying off of your feet, the foot should feel better. Muxed with beer, you'll feel so good, you'll be leaping over parked cars... not a good thing.

IANARD [I'm not a real doctor]

Great you get at least a week off. A month would be better. Sounds like a work related injury, hello, compensation? That's what it's for...

Last but not least, get well soon. :)
