Following on from this ...→[More:]... I just heard that my team-mate has been shortlisted for the job. This is the woman who had a hysterical meltdown in the office in July, and took the whole of August off because she was so stressed.
I just sent it off to an agency. I'm also applying to join two professional bodies that'll look good on it too. I'll post my applications to them tomorrow.
Um. Wow. Yeah, I agree it is probably time to find someplace else that actually appreciates your awesomeness and get the hell out of there. They don't deserve you.
Saturday Night Live once did a hilarious sketch about how "there's a 5 percent unemployment rate, but the problem is it's the WRONG 5 percent." Then they proceded to list well-known people who definitely needed to be out of work. I think about that every time I see incompetence not punished.
Yep. No point continuing when you've lost respect for management. But on the bright side, the mere act of looking is forward motion that will perk you up, if you're at all like me.
Their loss, for sure, ej. If it helps, I lost respect for the administration at my school years ago. The paycheck comes just the same, I figure. It still can get you down sometimes, though.
Whenever I mention your job to my mom, she's very impressed (as am I, even if your higher-ups seem to be near-sighted).
I am furious on your behalf. You will overcome in the end, Jan, just as you've overcome all the other crappy, cruel, senseless, unfair shit that's come down the pike... I'm just so terribly sorry that this is yet another one you have to deal with.
Oh, fuck. You really didn't want to hear that! Sorry ((((Jan)))). I know you will keep your eye on other opportunities but as we both know, the market in London for this level jobs is completely flatline at the moment.
The only advice I can offer is what I did last year in these circumstances, act like nothing had happened in the job, share with no-one in the job how much it hurt and wait for time to take care of the emotional bit. My friends and loved ones did really nice things to snap me out of the funk I was in and I was lucky that my hated manager was going on Mat leave and the job had great benefits.
