Warm fake whuffles. Thoughts about the bunnyfire situation. Being scapegoated for her belief system is, imo, hypocritical, unethical, bad mannered and wrong. I would like to say something about this before asking to be unsubscribed as a member here.[More:]

Basically, this isn't even about bunnyfire, it's about any member here being scapegoated, publicly denigrated as an idiot by the list owner, sniped at by members, whether they are Muslim, Christian, Republican, Liberal, whatever.
I am saddened and disturbed by bunnyfire being publicly trashed for having a different belief system, when I truly don't think she deserves it at all. You may hate Christianity or Republicans but I don't think that makes any member of this or any group individually eligible to be a target of representing the entire belief system of Christianity or the Republican Party. That's prejudice and bigotry. That's like targeting a person because of their color, or culture, as if they represented an entire race or group you hated.

As I've said, her beliefs, both political and religious, are not mine, at all. But in history, when opposing views were silenced with bullying and public denigration -yes I'll go to that place- it never met with any good.

Being perceived as provocative or sharing a different belief system doesn't mean a person deserves to or should be attacked with insults, called idiot or told if she bought shoes with heels that "heels are for standing on the necks of poor people". wtf?

Disagree with her beliefs? Fine. But there is a way to disagree with another person, which is at core respectful of their capacity to feel, their humanity. I don't think that happened here. It's one thing in the brute environment of disagreeing in MetaTalk but ugly snipes targeting bunnyfire mixed with the pseudo-friendly environment of nicey nice here, it's revolting. If that sounds angry to you, it is.

I logged out when a couple of members there were mean to her a while back. When I saw just now how personally nasty the members here could be, after the camouflage of all the whuffles and bunnies I felt sickened by it. I don't want to be a part of this. ugh.

A wise MeFite friend said when I approached them for advice about this, "Connie is fine - she does not depend on the approval of others as a source of her own significance and value."

That person opened my eyes to the idea the people here have an almost a religious faith in thinking that Politics will be a Solution to the problems of the poor. Look at history, this has not been the case. Voting in any politician isn't enough. It also requires the morality, ethics and warm heartedness of the people, like you. If you are cruel, mean spirited, deliberately hurtful, pulling the lever in the voting machine for Obama isn't going begin to be remotely enough.

Oh good grief, enough already.

That might be the impression you came away with but be assured that isn't the case.
i would address this further but i leave this for others to decide if it should stay and must eat something before i forge on with other concerns.

Please do not take this as a negative commentary. That is not the intent.

I agree with TPS.
ENOUGH ALREADY.
This is not about her politics or her religion. It's about her behavior. Miko described the problem quite eloquently here.

It's the impression I've come away with, too.

bunnyfire's beliefs aren't mine, either, but when someone posts pro-Obama stuff comparable to bunnyfire's conservative stuff, the pro-Obama person isn't expected to describe their every motivation and rationalization for it.

it most certainly is the case.

others can share their excitement about their candidate of choice, and relate stories of political events they have attended, but when she does it she is "setting herself up to play the martyr".

when she tries to participate in the community in the manner of everyone else, relating her joys, fears, and activities she's "bringing it on yourself".

the inability to see the hypocrisy is disgusting in people who purport so vigorously to despise hypocrisy.

meh on your whuffles and bunnies.

Is this the proverbial straw? Because I don't plan on going anywhere. Else, that is.

I was just thinking the other day that I'd been out of the deeper end of the Mecha pool for too long ... looks like I've missed quite a lot of drama.

Um, no it's not. Beliefs and actions are pretty much the only thing you can judge someone on. I haven't weighed in on this situation on one side or the other, but the whole "it's not fair to dislike someone because of their beliefs" canard just bothers me in general.

That being said, can we stop freakin' talking about this? Most of us just ignored her incendiary stuff most of the time. Most of us ignore MOST of the incendiary stuff most of the time. And I, for one, am fucking tired of coming to hang out with my friends only to find a series of condescending lectures on our collective lack of tact. If individual members behaved in a way you disagreed with, then call them out on it, but I've fucking had it with the "This place is full of meanies!" posts. They serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

It's absurd to think that every single website is going to be completely welcoming to every single person and every single aspect of his or her personality. Do none of you who are crying hypocrisy ever self edit? Do you put everything about yourself out there on this site? Because I sure as hell don't. I self edit and I would assume that any adult is equally capable of the same. I could say things here that would set your hair on fire and stir up one hell of a shitstorm if I chose. I value this community, however, so I choose not to do that.

Bunnyfire likes poking shit with a stick. If you think that's not true, than you haven't been watching her - here or at metafilter - very closely. Fine, she has a right to do that but she doesn't then have a right to cry victim when the shit begins to stink.

What list owner called her an idiot? I'm pretty sure taz stays away from that sort of thing.

Goddamn, let's just drop it and move on man. Close this freakin thread down. I mean, what jrossi said, for fucking sure.

A wasp's nest is unlike a pinata in many ways. One is that it doesn't dispense candy when you hit it with a stick. Put the damned stick down already.
